I’m surprised they’re not canceling flights today
Some of the flight routings are insane. Everything is going up through Memphis, even flights like Mobile-Houston.

Ah yes, quite close. So close, in fact, that you can probably smell my farts on a windy day if the wind was blowing out of the ESE. Congrats on living in God’s country.

probly easier to ride it up the jetstream to get to Memphis and com back down the back side - catch that tail wind, save a ton of fuel

Yes but still not 100% sure why. Competition between cells, with a south wind and the cells lined up S to N maybe they're sucking in rain cooled stability from around.
I've had a feeling that overall storm motion is a big contributor.

Too much speed shear as they go to rise? Tilting them too far and collapsing.
Then this kind of knocks the top off.

from my understanding... they will try to be over land as much as possible and try to avoid going over water if they can

according to Andy... the meteorologist assisting Ryan Hall... models apparently had the storm moving too slowly
the rain is hitting the Mississippi/Alabama line right now... the models had it getting there 2-3 hours from now... so it's 2-3 hours earlier than expected
That was evident where things started to set up this morning. I think I told Delta that we were ahead if schedule.

I was thinking it's because they aren't ETOPS certified and the storm could force them too far from a suitable diversion airport.

Chapel of Memories is built from bricks salvaged after the Old Main Dormitory burned down in 1959.

I’ve been downplaying this the whole time BUT these little spots along the line can and do often contain strong winds and small tornados.
