I’ll just copy from my previous post…
I’m offshore and my wife and three kids are about 200 yards east of I 59 right in the middle of Hattiesburg. I’m trying to get them to head down to Biloxi to my folks house just to be on the safe side
I was reading last night it here and I didnt like what I was seeing. Still looking bad for Hattiesburg? Explain it to me like im 10, lol. Ive learned a few things from these threads and can read Radarscope pretty decently. Not sure what a lot of it means, but I can normally spot the trouble areas. What should I be looking for and why does it always seem that from like the north shore, Bogalusa, Hattiesburg, Meridian line always get hammered by these?
it's very possible... and probably most probable today... that tornado machine go brrrrrrrrrrr around Hattiesburg

My sister (no pics) moved to Hattiesburg a few months ago. This is her first taste of real tornado like weather today. I’m trying to tell her that she needs to be very careful, but she’s downplaying it. Lives on the 3rd floor of an apartment complex, and works nights, so she says she’s going to be sleeping all day today.
Kind of getting a little worried for her, because she’s not giving it the attention it needs. She doesn’t understand how much of a hotspot that is for tornados. Do they have sirens and stuff in Hattiesburg? If she’s asleep during this thing, that could be the only thing that would wake her up.

tell her about the EF3 tornado in 2017 that hit Hattiesburg and killed 4
or the EF4 tornado that hit Hattiesburg in 2013 (and miraculously didn't kill anyone)
and remind her she's on the 3rd story and the winds will be higher up there than those on the ground floor... it'll be worse for her than those below her

most places in the south have sirens, and Hattiesburg seems to have decent warning modes due to Southern MS - she just needs a good weather app or radio that will wake her up, in the event the siren doesn't

As someone who has been in Hattiesburg for about seven years now, she absolutely needs to take this seriously. In that time there have been countless days like this where it’s just a constant worry and watching the storms as they approach. Like I asked earlier, there is something about this area that just draws the severe weather and the tornadoes. Undoubtably, there will be some stuff formed to the south west of us and track right through Hattiesburg. Whether that spawns any tornadoes is yet to be seen
Where is she in Hattiesburg? There is a siren at Thames elementary school which is about a mile from my place and depending on which way the wind is blowing it can be tough to hear. And there aren’t many apartment complexes near us

She absolutely should not rely on sirens to get a tornado warning, particularly when sleeping. The chances are low that a siren would wake her up unless the siren is very close by. If she'll listen, tell her to turn on the built-in emergency alerts in the settings on her phone. Every smart phone has them.

HRRR really keen on a semi-discrete line pushing through SELA

That's exactly what we faced in East & SE Texas all night and early morning. Continuous alerts on my smart phone, in the dark for a new tornado warning and need to take cover. It was brutal

She lives in the NW part of Hattiesburg I guess. Off of 49, about 2-3 miles from where 59 and 49 meet.
She knows about all the tornados over the last few years over there too. We have lots of friends from over there, that we’ve known for a long time. She’s like a typical girl I guess, ditzy, and for some reason, the seriousness of these events don’t startle her. I’m gonna watch these storms very closely and will call her and stuff if something pops up, but like all of y’all are saying, it’ll be best if she’s the one who’s paying attention, and for some reason, it seems like I can’t get through to her on it.

sadly these type situations take something happening to them to sink in - I pray it does not come to that.
I learned my lesson - I didn't take warnings too seriously where I live on the south side of Birmingham - until one tracked through Eagle Point, about a mile from me last spring, and then the one that hit Leeds a few weeks ago went over my apartment and touched down about a mile or so up the road from me - now i take that shite very seriously.

My son is in school in Hattiesburg and his fiancé teaches in Laurel. I made sure to remind them to keep their heads on a swivel today.

Should I leave work before 5 if I'm in the metro Nola area?

Literally been thinking this exact thing. Like you said, that’s usually what it takes for people to take stuff seriously. I’ve been blowing up her phone over the last 12 hours, so I’ve definitely warned her enough about this, so hopefully it’ll sink into her head soon.

HRRR with discrete cells around Meridian. It’s in “every Spring” mode

She needs to have her phone next to her on full volume. Typically you'll get the doom siren from EMS if one is gonna be close.

Im a tornado forecasting contest where you name the city and how close the tor is determines your points. Yeah, Im within 25 miles of Meridian with my target today.

Hear me out, she should turn those on since she'll be asleep.
