I had a gay roommate for awhile, never had any issues other than he was an idiot.
He paid his bills, minded his own business, kept the place clean. I barely saw him because he worked 2nd shift.

I had a gay friend from Denver stay one summer at my house. He was the Hollywood stereotype come true - he was an interior designer and he helped me make a lot of changes to my house. He was a good house guest and he caused no problems.
Your prospective roommate knows you two are straight and he's not going to come down to put the moves on you. The only issue you might have to watch: drugs. I knew my friend liked the occasional party with coke, and I told him that wasn't going to happen at my house. He complied with my request.
ETA: He told me he didn't want to listen to any of my talk about conspiracies. So, I had rules to follow to
