Really it's a great idea. The priest or counselor forces them to express their opinions on all kinds of issues they might not have talked about. Money, kids, inlaws, boundaries, etc.
Exactly so.
Priests (well, the RC variety) haven't been married themselves but they've typically seen plenty of the BS people pull to protect themselves "just in case" that ultimately destroys the relationship.

agreed...helps you to confront some differences and teaches some conflict resolution techniques....not sure why everyone wouldn't want those tools up front...

I got married in the Catholic Church and we had to go through the process. I was not looking forward to it at all, mainly because I'm not Catholic and had pre conceived notions about sitting down with a priest. I was surprised at how laid back it was. It wasn't bad at all. He didn't get specific. We just kind of talked about what we expected out of marriage and life in general. Maybe it was just our preist but I enjoyed it.

Why would you seek marriage advice from a priest? Serious question.
Well ignoring that their job is to be knowledgeable about the church, they've met with hundreds of engaged couples and have a pretty good idea what's going on.

We didn't get into a whole lot of family planning. I was told that if you live together before you're married, you better not tell them.

It's a requirement to be married in the Catholic Church. We got lucky ... married by a Deacon who was actually married himself. Looked just like Father Guido Sarducci from SNL fame.

Waste of your time and money.

They will interrogate each of you separately
I had a separate session. The priest inspected my penis to make sure I was husband material. He said it looked good but my semen was really salty tasting.

Serious answer: why not?
They aren't monks like the dumbass on page 1 thinks. Priests are normal people with marriages and families just like anyone else, they just have a different profession.
If the OP is involved in his particular faith, why shouldn't he sit down with his priest? He's just a resource to give advice on a Godly marriage. Assuming the OP is involved with the church, which I assume he is since they're going to a priest, I don't see why it's such an issue.

I've only skimmed the thread but have seen this mentioned several times...what faith do yall practice where priests can't marry?
I'm a baptist and our pastors are regular folks that marry and have sex and have kids just like anyone else.

Yep.
Plus they weren't always priests. A handful are widowers and most had girlfriends before they went into the seminary.

Mostly ridiculous really.
They will spend a lot of time on how to do the family planning method and that regular birth control is to be avoided.
Get ready to leave annoyed.
