Prairie Lake Golf Club did something really cool for my Dad today

My mom died a year and a half ago and my Dad (92 year old WWII, Korea and Vietnam Marine vet) and the rest of us went today on her birthday to her grave at the Grand Prairie National Cemetery. Afterwards, we went to eat at the Prairie Lake Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Tx. My dad went into the pro shop and asked if they had an 8 iron as he had lost his (not sure how, he plays golf most Mondays and has shot his age four times in his late 80's). The club pro gave my Dad an 8 iron (I believe because of the fact that a 92 year old still plays golf). Given the context of the day, it really made my Dad smile.

The club pro's timing was perfect (and he didn't know it) - my parents were married 60+ years and visiting my mom's grave site is tough on him.

I am so sorry for your loss of your mom. Great story about your dad! Your dad is a true hero. Tell him to go to high schools and talk to kids. Too many have lost or never learned history.

Good for that pro. I'm happy for your Dad and I am impressed that he shot his age in his 80s.
Our WWII vets are literally a dying breed. My Dad died in 2003, he would have been 91 this year. My Mom celebrated her 90th yesterday and is still going pretty strong, despite a couple of falls recently.
I'll bet it did your heart and soul good to see a big smile on your Dad's face. Bless you all.

He probably carried two clubs from the cart to the ball, unsure which he would to hit, and forgot to pick up the 8 iron after he hit his 7 or 9.
That's how probably 99% of golf clubs get lost. Shame whoever was behind him didn't pick it up for him.

On a recent behind the scenes tour of the WWII museum I got a chance to view the PT boat being rebuilt. I noticed a wall with life vests on it and asked the gentleman giving us the tour about it. Sadly he mentioned that each life vest represented a member of the rebuild team that had passed during the construction time. Sad stuff.

No, it has a nice clubhouse. It is just north of 635/I20 on Beltline Road.
