keep buying tickets. buy 50! it'll increase your chances.
i mean hell, Jeffrey Epstein won the lottery twice. it could be YOUR turn.

My wife thinks I’m dumb for buying a ticket each drawing. One ticket a few times a week is not going to break us but if I ever win, I’m trading her in.
Behind every single winner throughout history was a spouse who thought it was dumb to buy the ticket.

Somehow I feel like $260 million is simultaneously a lot but also not a lot. You could wipe that out pretty quick in today's dollars. A couple houses in prime areas, a private plane, some cars, some trips with your whole extended family.
Just the upkeep, HOA, and taxes on the houses is a high bill that goes on indefinitely.

I’d have to lock the money away in trust to stop myself. Find a way that can draw like 1 million a year and live off of that.
Not only to protect myself from the poors begging but to protect myself from myself

Put the bulk of it somewhere boring, let it generate income, and live off a portion of the returns. At 4%, $260M throws off about $867k a month before taxes. You could live a ridiculous lifestyle without ever touching the principal.

How this fact escapes some people is mind blowing.

First, you should live in tax advantageous state if you can so future earnings aren't killed.
But, 6% interest on $260m is $15.6m a year.
Or let's say you buy 3 $10m properties., and 1 $10m jet (seats 8).
You're left with $220m. Which at 6% interest (very obtainable), you earn $13.2m a year. After taxes on that, you've got ~$8.3m
Jet is $1m to maintain, houses combined let's say $1m to maintain.
You're left with, after $2m of overhead on homes and jet, $6.3m a year to play with.
I think you guys could manage.
ETA:
Even 4%, you're living large.

I think in theory that sounds like an amazing idea, it's just fighting the "I'm rich!" mentality and spending high and blowing large chunks of it before it can make you passive income. That $10 million private island, $5 million yacht, $5 million jet, $2 million helicopter...all sound pretty good
I don't think I would go broke, but it definitely wouldn't be where you never had to think about money again.

Good insight, OBJ

The point is, $250 million isn't a situation like a multi-billionaire who literally could buy anything asides from a sports franchise or a country and not notice the money gone.

Then go the annuity route.

Dude, look at my math above.
You can buy 3 $10m homes, a $10m jet, and after taxes and overhead on those things, still have $6.3m income a year at 6% interest.
In reality, I'd try to hold off on huge purchases for a few years to get the 6% applied to the $260m in full, then start big purchases. Add $15.6m annually to the pot. I'd lease everything fancy and still not come close to spending that after taxes. Keep growing the egg while I do really good research on the properties and plane I want to buy. Likely, I'd look for property and build a dream home/property, which would take time to coordinate and would lease a big arse house in the meantime.
Pull out $5m a year for a few years to lease your life and let the rest grow
Year 0: 260
Year 1: 270.3
Year 2: 281.2
Year 3: 292.8
THEN buy the big shite for 40-50m and live off interest income.

How much do you get paid a year if you don't cash out immediately?
