We apparently still have power in sulphur by Maplewood middle school. Appears most of rest of town, Carly’s, hackberry, and north don’t either. My wife, newborn son, and I are stuck at the hospital since he was delivered on Sunday

Stout, I know it isn't practical in louisiana especially in LC, but heat tracing pipes under houses is worth the trouble. Peace of mind on those 2-3 frozen nights per year.

Cool.

Update... Spoke to neighbors and the whole neighborhood does not have water so looks like it's a city water problem not just my house.

Makes sense knowing how the house is built and running water I don't see how the pipes could freeze

Should I just leave the faucets open or turn off at the main?

Slow, you aren't far from me. It's a city water issue apparently. I'm still turning off my main only because I may leave but I'd leave open a faucet at least if you're staying to let pressure off if the system.

Once.

I have one toilet downstairs still flushing because it's directly below the water heater that is upstairs so there's enough pressure on it to flush.

Which hospital? If St Pat's then that tells me my pipes are not frozen and it's a local water issue

That'd take a lot of shite... Literally

No water pressure on drain pipes to freeze them completely. Sludge in the pipe might freeze some but it'll flush

Friend,

You know you are always welcome to join us. We have a brilliant fire going this morning. We just finished some smoked kippers and caviar for breakfast.

Next time remember this trick Mother taught me long ago. Rather than waste water by running it, turn off the water at the street just before bedtime. By the time you will need water again in the morning, the threat of frozen pipes is usually gone and you can turn back on the water. I have never understood why all the weathermen have said to run your water. It is a terrible idea and does not work well for really hard freezes.

As always, our prayers go with you.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Nick Hunter said they shut off water plants due to power issue.

ETA: I imagine this will 100% freeze thousands of households pipes now

Power is on, but the water is out.

I am sweating it out, hoping it is just turned off and not frozen, busted pipes, because our pipes are under the house in concrete. I would think that would protect the them from freezing, but I'm a bit nervous. The water company won't answer the phone, so they are currently no help.
