Great, 4 more days of school closures because kids can't go to school when it's cold.

so they are full of shite when they say climate change will lead to more hurricanes?

It's reasonable to believe a warmer climate would lead to more severe hurricanes over time. That seems like a logical conclusion, no?

And I thought they closed schools because roads were closed and there was ice everywhere and pipes were busted. You mean they could have just turned on the heat!? Next time you should let them know.

Yes, and "we" isn't isolated to LA or even North America.

I'm not really trying to have a global warming debate, just pointing out the fallacy of using localized events as proof for or against climate change.

December 2017 was the 4th warmest December on the global record (138 years of records). December 2015 was the warmest ever, on record. I guess you can argue the current trend is going in the right direction.

In the long run yes and we have seen this. In my opinion in also leads to strange/extreme weather patterns. The only reason we are getting these artic blasts matched with moisture is because a certain pattern is in place. Hell I believe if extreme global warming was to occur then some parts of the world would go into a mini ice age. Global warming is just a terrible term imo as it makes everyone assume that well if it’s ever cold then it must be false.

If it's going to get freezing cold again we better get some precip! Shut those roads DOWN.

Let me stay home and play Call of Duty and not feel guilty.

There is a rodeo bbq cook off near me here in north Houston next weekend. I am invited to a private tent with food and drinks both Friday and Saturday. This might suck if it’s below freezing.

BigBerg didn't realize you moved to Houston as well. Seems like 1/2 of Houston is from Louisiana.

I think they'll have plenty of propane heaters underneath the tents. What BBQ is this? I live in the Copperfield area of NW Houston.

It’s the humble bbq cook off. I am sure they will have heaters and plenty of alcohol to keep me warm.

I actually live in kingwood but this event is at the humble civic center.

Dude, Nicholson drive during the last winter/snow mix looked like something out of Mad Max. Cars smashed everywhere.

I'll take some snow like the first time. But I'm not feeling the ice roads at all.

Cold and snow would be awesome, but we have band, party bus, and my fiancee's make-up and hair people coming from NOLA. Ice is what would suck. Plus, I have a round of golf set up Friday morning.

We got married 2-4-11 in Baton Rouge. Epic ice, everything closed including airports in Baton Rouge, Dallas (year super bowl was there, it was a cluster with dfw closed). We had a lot of family driving to mobile, Gulfport, and even as far as Birmingham to pick up our stranded family flying in from all over the country. They were taking every form of available transportation once they got to Atlanta and were stuck. My flowers were frozen in Dallas, my maid of honor had to hitch a ride to Nola and then Bee Rye brought her to Baton Rouge just in time to miss the rehearsal dinner. Many guests were unable to attend due to bridge closures (basin, Bonne carre), Shaw center tried to call and reschedule our rehearsal dinner (hello, it can't be rescheduled) the night before.

It was 24 and sleeting when I walked down the aisle that night. Had around 50 RSVPs not come because of roads, totally understandable. But we had an awesome time and a beautiful, albeit freezing, wedding. And literally everyone has a pretty good story to tell about their travels. Just don't let your photographer take y'all outside for some downtown photos in that cold. I agreed to it and when we came back inside my arms looked like someone had beaten me down because they were so red.

ETA: if your family loves you and you hire quality vendors, you won't know any of this until after the wedding. No one told me ANYTHING about the travel situations as well as my flowers being picked across every store in Baton Rouge since mine weren't making it from Dallas. Had I known my husbands cousins were sleeping in bus stations/airports and having to be picked up 6-8 hours away the day of our wedding I might have had a nervous breakdown.
