UPDATE:
New model output dropped the Gulf scenario all together

Models are hinting at potential for a tropical or subtropical system forming in the southern Gulf then moving north and northeastward toward the central or northeast Gulf coast.

Most likely just a rain maker for wherever it goes or if it even develops at all. Models can be quite tricky during this time of year.

Future GFS New but not the most reliable

GFS decently reliable major model

GFS has the system fading out in the central Gulf then heading back southward as a disturbance.

No other model really picks up on it yet.

I can promise you the idiots at WLOX in Gulfport will treat this storm as a massive, unprecedented category 5.

frickers and their overreaction.

The only thing we can be certain of from this data is that it won't hit the Destin area.

You always have to wait until they move the cone these days to see where it's going.

The steady south wind will keep them up a bit but there's very little rain ahead of that system so chances are the rise would barely be noticeable unless it comes this way and goes just to the west of the lake then dumps lots of rain on us.

Not that tropical systems do that or anything.

Once the triangle math starts, we'll know more.

Also, this was on rds dc's radar like two or three weeks ago. That dude plays 4D weather chess.

About right, taking our annual trip during that period. Kind of like the annual rite of passage for the blooming of bluebonnets.

Those little pop-up in the Gulf storms have caused a lot of grief in the past. Though, the fish usually bite real good with the low pressure and high tide.

Yeah, sometimes it seems like rds knows some stuff.

Even talked about how it was likely an end of the month concern.
