I'm not totally opposed to private schools, but the wife and I would prefer a diverse, well performing public school, if such a thing exist.
Lafayette High is your best bet. I'm not sure how diverse it is.
I work with a recent Lafayette High grad. She refers to it as "laugh and get high" that should tell you something.

Have a bunch of friends who graduated from LHS and they're all normal, functioning members of society.
Nothing wrong with LHS imo

Don't live in Lafayette. Move to Youngsville or Broussard.
Depending on if you commute to Lafayette and where you are going this may not be a good idea. I'm not sure there is anything larger than a two lane road (except hwy90) in and out of Youngsville.
For example, if your drive takes you between Youngsville Hwy and Pinhook this is what it looks like at 8am and 5pm. Up to 20+ minutes for that short section of roadway.

Roselawn, River's Bend, Brentwood, and GreenBriar ( if you're an OT baller). Basically anything south of Johnston between South College and Camilla and north of the Vermillion.

If you can get your kids into gifted, do it. They'll go to Plantation, Breaux, and Lafayette but will be in some great classes with great teachers. I took a few gifted/ honors classes and the dumb kids out of those still went to ULL/LSU. Some of my friends went to Stanford, Tulane, Harvard, UCLA and Vandy for engineering and pre med. My high school girlfriend just finished her residency at UCLA/Ronald Reagan and went to Vandy for med school and wasnt even in the top twenty.

If you dont want to go to school in the ghetto or with a bunch of hicks, Lafayette High is your best option.

I was in gifted from third grade through high school. Paul Breaux is in the ghetto but its a pretty diverse mix of students. I was zoned for LHS so I was going there anyway. Was a good experience overall.

Yeah the zone for Breaux goes all the way to ambassador I believe
Posted on 1/28/16 at 8:36 pm to yellowfin
It does. Pretty much everything along Kaliste Saloom. Anything beyond that is zoned for Milton (which is also a great district). Breaux pulls from a few neighborhoods on the North side but its still an A rated school.

Horrible advice
This is correct.

Paul Breaux is not a good school. They have the gifted program there to counter what the school would normally be. The principal that was there when I attended was a complete moron. Doubt she's still there. It's also in a sketchy neighborhood.

Yeah I probably wouldn't want to send my kids into "gen pop" at Paul Breaux but the gifted program is solid and raises their scores.
Posted on 1/28/16 at 11:01 pm to hendersonshands
Exactly this. My son did pull-out gifted there one year.............never again. The general pop makes it clear how uncool it is to try to be smart.
