Port Allen must have more video poker dens per capita than anywhere in the state

There have to be at least 10 on hwy 415 alone, each grandly named a "Casino." As ws passed by well after midnight last night, on the way home from the game, most had one or two tired looking vehicles out front. No doubt some meemaw or unemployed welder blowing the last of this month's disability check. Sad!

Has anyone here with a family and responsibility ever blown their whole paycheck, as soon as they got it at a casino or similar?

Sadly, the OTB is shuttered. No need for it when you can play the ponies online. The adult video store is still there. One wonders how they make a go of it in the age of internet porn. I ponder these things on the drive home as I listen to Hannagriff field calls from drunk Tiger fans in between Gordy's hair plug and male fat spa commercials.

Gambling in general, and video poker in particular, are run by the Mafia in Louisiana, and has been that way for a century now. There is no where in America where the Mob more tightly controls gambling in America than Louisiana. NJ, PA, NV "gaming" control boards have all tightened to get organized crime out. To some extent, they have been successful.

A guy I work with blew his whole check (two weeks pay) at the casino and he has zero savings.
He had to go to get a check advance to pay bills and now he's in a giant hole. He also has a kid that's around 9 or 10.
