I’ve never tracked any of my cars, the track insurance and tires would just blow up my budget.
I was in the local Porsche dealership a few weeks ago and I spoke with a gentleman that was pricing a 911 to be ordered that was going to be used on the track - he made it seem as though exclusive track use. Very impressive

Thats my view when I buy a car. Something about dumping the clutch like a degenerate makes me want to keep living.

I would think most of you are buying these cars for fun, and not to win any race, right? Seems a manual would be more fun unless you were actually competing. I've never tracked a car but i have jumped railroad tracks before.

Exactly, I'm not street racing or taking it to track days every weekend. For me, couple tenths slower is worth the trade off for increased enjoyment.

To each his own...

That's my life.

Not many folks will take a 911 cross-country, but it was a helluva good time, both times I did it.

Cars are for driving.

Exactly. I know a guy with a nice vintage car and he rarely takes it out even with zero chance of rain. I have asked him several times, who are you saving this car for? The next owner is probably going to beat the hell out of it anyway and it's not like he is going to lose any appreciable amount of money on it. Sad way to treat a car that needs to be driven.

Exactly. And the best part is we have most of the bells and whistles without a touchscreen. Buttons and knobs...

I was waiting to see if the S would have a manual. The T seems a little underpowered but easily tuned. 2025 is my year to get another fun car as a weekend car and I have determined it will be 100% a manual. Thought about the boxster 4.0 or spyder. Preference is a 911 but they sure don;t depreciate which I suppose is a good thing in the long run. Have done the manual BMW's and have thought about one for nostalgia sake. Maybe an older gated ferrari or Lamborghini... Feel like I need to get a good one to keep before all automakers kill them off.

Porsche killing nearly all manuals but two 911s....

Sure the PDK is faster, but that's like preferring a Quartz timepiece tlover mechanical because it's more accurate.

No. But you can get one in the low to mid 100’s. Similar price to a 911. I would like to get a car that I could pass down to son that would be cool to bough for him to keep.

Brother, I appreciate you, but those older Italian cars are high- maintenance money pits.

Definitely stick with the Porsche...

Most guys don’t do track insurance. I did around 20 track days and never once bought track insurance, and never came remotely close to needing it. Only advanced group allows open passing at NOLA, and advanced is mostly guys who race and have cars set up to track. No one out there wants to wreck their car. Intermediate group requires a wave-by and you can only pass on the longer straights.
As far as tires go, unless you’re one of the top couple guys out there in intermediate, you’re not going through tires. Running a Mach 1 and a C8 Vette bone stock without even setting up track camber, I didn’t start eating tires til I was running 2:01s. Even running 2:03-2:05s, I could get 15k miles plus 3 track days out of a set of tires.

…and my C8 was my 5th car that I tracked (911, C7 Vette, C7 Grand Sport, Mach 1, C8) - and it was the only automatic and I didn’t even paddle shift. The manuals were much more fun and made you feel more connected to the car & track.

This is great information
I belong to local Porsche organization and I met a few guys that have crashed or maybe a simple rubbing.
One day I might put my Cayenne GTS on the track.
When I purchased my cayman S a few years ago from Texas dealer, the salesman said he was going thru tires once a month - maybe he was stretching the truth.

I have an 03 911 Carrera with six speed manual. It is the most fun car I have ever owned (don't get to drive it much since the wife has back and leg problems and has trouble getting in and out of the car.)
