It’s been two years since wildfires burned Western North Carolina and devastated the town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Country music superstar Dolly Parton stepped up to help rebuild Sevier County through an unconventional policy.

“Dolly was on tour and she called in to say what can we do and how quickly can we do it?” says Dotson. “Her hometown means so much to her. She always calls it her Smokey Mountain DNA.”

The My People’s fund gave $1000 per month to about 900 families impacted by the fire - regardless of income - for 6 months. But the Dollywood Foundation received so many donations they increased the amount to $5000 the final month. They also opened an additional organization called Mountain Tough to help families on a case-by-case basis and clean up homesites.

In total, $12.5 million dollars went to the people of Sevier County from the foundation

Dolly didn't ask anyone to donate. SHE led with millions of her own dollars and didn't beg others to help the survivors. Donations flooded in organically and rather than using that to refill her coffers she increased the amount she was giving.

Your white liberal posting history is very well known, but nobody feels like going through that many posts to “prove” something to you.

Don't even look up a post, just give me 1 example.

Here's where you slink away without giving an example that i've ever said, because you have none.

But hey, you can be the 1 guy that proves me wrong, here's your chance....go!!

No thanks, I didn't donate, which is why you don't see me whining about those who donate and saying they didn't donate as much as I think they should have.

So you hated the Jerry Lewis telethons and also absolutely hated multiple celebrities on TV asking for donations for south Louisiana after Katrina, right?

It's just odd, in 16+ years here since it happened, I've never seen a single person complain about all those donation requests for Katrina and the gulf region, wonder why no one ever complained about that...

Notice how people are replying, but no one can give a single solitary example out of 100k posts of mine.

Any one of you have a chance to prove me wrong and make me look foolish, but not a one of you can point to any stance I've ever had that proves me wrong.

Funny how that works.

Go ahead Jones, try it.

Both Winfrey, 69, and Johnson, 52, committed $5 million each to get the People's Fund of Maui started, stating in a video that the money would be directly distributed to those in need who were affected by the fires in the historical town of Lahaina. However, many were angered that Winfrey - with a reported net worth of $2.8 billion - and Johnson - reportedly worth $800 million - are still asking for fans to chip in.

I mean it is bull shite. These two are worth billions of dollars and they only chip in $5m? That’s nothing to them. And then they beg hard working average people, who are struggling right now dealing with inflation bc of the jackass president you endorsed, to keep giving? frick you. Donate $100m if you’re that serious.

What happened to just helping others and doing the right thing, without needing to announce it and get credit?

I've never donated to celebrity causes but I have my own causes that are important to me. And I support those. And I don't need to put it all over the internet.

Why can't Oprah just hit up all her friends for the money? In one night or a couple of hours she probably have done more than what was donated. Because it's not about the money, it's about the social credit.

NBC's live telethon to raise money for the American Red Cross aired Friday night. It was organized by Louisiana native Tim McGraw, Harry Connick Jr. and Wynton Marsalis.

Fair point, but I imagine that big celebrity televised telethon after Katrina generated a shite ton more money for south Louisiana than if there wasn't a telethon, so it's hard to argue having more money donated is a bad thing

Raising money for our families and friends in south Louisiana, just despicable.

I'm disgusted that they'd do that.

“After 9-11,there was a huge thing on TV”

Whole lot of water under the bridge since 9-11.
Maybe I’m wrong for feeling this way but Hawaii has been solid Democrat since achieving statehood, they voted overwhelmingly for Biden,so let them reap what they sow.
Maybe it’ll open their eyes that the corrupt, pedophile, demented president will send billions to Ukraine and crumbs to Hawaii.
Also ,letting untold millions of illegals across our border which is going to ultimately destroy our country.

Trump was excoriated for his America First policy.Who in the hell else is a President/Head of State supposed to be for other than his citizens first.Show me a husband /father / head of a household that won’t put his famiy first.if they are a decent person, they will everytime.

My suspicion is that Biden is all in for Ukraine, for fear that if they lose the depths of corruption he was involved in will be exposed.I suspect that what we know is only a fraction of the whole story.
Truth be told Biden is all in it for Biden,he doesn’t give a rat’s arse for Hawaii(or any other American).

Polarized I am,so be it.

I donate money to St.Jude’s,Shriner’s Hospital ,Samaritan’sPurse because I feel sorry for innocent children.

What tickled me was that people immediately started comparing her to Dolly with this, saying that Dolly did so much with her own money and didn't ask people to donate to a charity she set up. Also, saying Dolly didn't go the media circus route when she did it.

When, in reality, they both did apples-to-apples the exact same thing. Dolly set up her charity through Dollywood, and encouraged her fans to donate to it after making a public proclamation of what she had personally donated and giving interviews to media outlets across the country.

People love, maybe live, to hate Oprah, and I can't fault them for it, and Dolly is Dolly......so, here we are.

Oh boy.

Small government fiscal conservatives just can’t stand it when people aren’t giving more of their own money the way they see fit. What a world
