Put a stack of treatment tabs in there.
Go ahead and order a Pentair or Hayward variable speed pump that's sized for your pool from Amazon and it'll be waiting for you when you get back. They are easy to wire.

How do you rewind bearings?

I’ve done two. Overall I wouldn’t say easy but it’s not as hard as it seems, especially with some YT vids to follow. Sometimes the bolts can be seized up and really tough to get off.

What kind of pump? Is the pump moving the same volume of water as before? If the diffuser breaks loose, a pump will make horrible noises and it sounds like metal is hitting the impeller.

The same way you repack your stator.

Underrated comment
my grandpas go to solution for his pool was, “ Well a little more chlorine won’t kill nobody.”

I read this as poop pump motor and was thinking yep we've all experienced that.

I own a pool company and replaced a motor yesterday evening for the same reason. Took about an hour to replace.
Yours may still work but I bet it’s pulling slowly. The one we replaced was so bad off 5 lbs of shock wouldn’t do anything. 13k gallon pool so nothing crazy. Just too much algae and not enough flow from the pump. No matter how much shock we would put in the algae killed it all within a day.

Replacing bearings is easy. I learned by looking at a couple of videos on YouTube. Takes about a hour. Invest in a bearing puller from harbor freight. Much cheaper than new motor.

Wondering how long it’ll last. I know it’s an unanswerable question, but…..
You are wanting us to tell you exactly how long an electric motor will last with a bad bearing just by a vague description of the noise?
Ok. Between 30 minutes and 6 months.
If it makes you feel any better… there was a high pitched noise coming from my evaporator fan motor in my central air unit.. it lasted a week before I had to pull the air handler apart and replace the motor and capacitor.

Bearings going out

It’s easier to change out a pool pump than it is to change the oil in a new truck.

Seal is leaking water into the electric motor and this goes directly onto the bearings. They rust to shite, dry up, and lock up. Just changed mine.Get a new electric motor and new set of seals.
FYI, If you have a Leslies Pool Supply in your city they are much cheaper than most other local stores.
Paid $279 compared to $455 at the others in Lafayette.

Mine screamed for months before giving it up.
