Police brutality = $1.5 Million settlement for this man

Kenneth Espinoza has reached a significant settlement of $1.5 million with Las Animas County and other parties, following an incident two years ago where he was subjected to excessive force by law enforcement officers. The settlement, announced by Espinoza's attorney, Kevin Mehr, marks the culmination of a distressing episode that occurred on November 29, 2022, where Espinoza was repeatedly shocked with a Taser in the face while handcuffed, during a forceful arrest executed by two sheriff’s deputies.
This incident not only led to the firing of the deputy and lieutenant involved , after an investigation revealed inconsistencies between the body camera footage and the officers' accounts of the arrest, but it has also ignited a broader conversation about police accountability. "This settlement is not only a victory for Mr. Espinoza and his family,” Mehr stated. “It’s a victory for the people of Colorado and sends a clear message to those who misuse their badge for brutality, signaling an end to such misconduct. If the sheriff won’t hold you accountable, we will."
The events leading up to this lawsuit began when Espinoza and his son, Nathaniel, were in Trinidad for construction work. They were en route to a local Ford dealership to drop off a pick-up truck for service, with Nathaniel following in a separate vehicle. It was during this journey that former Deputy Mikhail Noel initiated a traffic stop on Nathaniel, prompting Kenneth to park his truck close by to stay near his son. This action led to a heated confrontation with Lt. Henry Trujillo, who had arrived as backup. Body camera footage revealed Trujillo aggressively ordering Espinoza to leave, followed by a confusing exchange where Espinoza received conflicting commands, ultimately leading to his wrongful detention.
Espinoza, attempting to comply with the deputies' instructions, found himself at gunpoint, handcuffed, and subjected to Tasers being deployed by Trujillo and Noel, with one Taser striking him in the face. It was reported that the deputies used their Tasers approximately 35 times on Espinoza. The ordeal did not end there; despite Espinoza's peaceful cooperation and evident distress, he was threatened further and taken to jail under conditions that were not justified.
This case was brought to light not just through the initial investigative efforts by the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office but was further substantiated by an independent investigation conducted by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office. The findings of this investigation were damning, highlighting that there was no cause for Espinoza's arrest, that the use of Tasers was misapplied, and that the subsequent reports filed by the deputies were misleading.
The video will make your blood boil. The guy even explained he was there because it was his kid in the pulled-over vehicle and he wasn't doing anything other than waiting on his son.
Video
Both officers were rightfully fired but that first guy should have never been a cop. It's clear he had an ego/power trip issue. Probably has a small penis or was mad at his wife's bull for calling him "little buddy"

frick em, they should be in jail.
Just don't be stupid if you're a cop and 90% of this shite doesn't happen. That's the bare minimum......just don't be stupid.

After it escalates that one cop even tells him if he drives off he was going to "light him up"
The dude was willing to kill that man over nothing.

Not only did he remain employed, but rose to the rank of Lieutenant in the department.

Pretty sure this is cop slang for putting the lights on and pulling you over.
Not defending the cops here but I doubt he meant to threaten to shoot the guy.

Wish we had a way to make that dickhead pay back the tax payers that will foot the bill.

That's not at all what he meant. He said it when they all had guns pointed at him. They already had the lights on and the man pulled over. He was flat-out saying he was going to shoot him if he drove off.

I’m good with this. When criminals do bad shite and get roughed up by the cops I’m indifferent. But when cops rough people up for no reason other than being assholes and an abuse of their authority, they can frick themselves and should go to prison IMO.

His exact words were "don't pull away from me or you're going to get lit up"
Maybe he meant taser but at the time he was saying that they all had guns on him and their tasers were all in holsters

The dude was rude to the cops but he was not doing anything illegal and was waiting on his son. If you can't handle a citizen telling you to frick off then you shouldn't be a cop.

The dumbest among us are cops, its unbelievable that you don’t have to pass an IQ test to become one.

Nobody is threatened by police lights, that isnt the context here

He was rude but the cop did come up to that window with any ounce of respect or decency. I understand cops are always on edge and they get a little leeway. But this is extravagant, if you can’t understand why a dad would be behind his son being pulled over you aren’t smart enough to be a cop. (It’s irrelevant if it’s allowed or frowned upon, have some understanding while you try and explain to the father the implications and reasons why)
if he doesn’t comply and you don’t want to arrest him that’s fine. But the actions taken were absurd. Even considering he didn’t comply at first command.
I try to find any reason to back the blue in any case but it seems like it’s getting harder to do, or at least more often than in the past we get these videos.

I could make myself "marginalized" for $1.5MM

Not going to lie if the cops wanted to taze me and cuff me and I get 1.5 mil let's do it.

I posted earlier about losing faith in law enforcement and since I had starting feeling that way I've seen too many of these ridiculous videos. That's what prompted me to gauge everyone's viewpoint on it. They are slipping FR.
