For history buffs, I recommend Mike Duncan's History of Rome and Revolutions.
The 14 episodes on the American Revolution are concise and easy to listen to.
The French Revolution was a little too detailed for my taste.
Revolutions is a podcast created by Mike Duncan which first aired on 15 September 2013. Each season is dedicated to one revolution or revolutionary wave. It followed a narrative style similar to his podcast The History of Rome, but the shorter time periods for each season allow greater detail for individual events. Each series follow a mostly chronological approach with one or two episodes at the beginning dedicated to the pre-history of the revolution and its causes, sometimes highlighting when and how the revolution could have been avoided.

BEWARE! If you like true crime, the occult, serial killers, and aliens, this might become your favorite.
I wanted to like it, but the hosts are such complete douchebags I can't listen.

Otis Gibbs.....Thanks for Giving damn......Otis talks about historical music with an emphasis on blues and old folks. He interviews people that were there.....minor characters that lend insight. He also talks to more contemporary people in the current Americana music scene.

The Third Reich Podcast. Not many episodes yet, and the hosts are academics, so it can be a little dry. But they dive deep into the inner workings of the Nazi regime, using primary sources.
The WWII Podcast with Ray Harris, Jr. This guy is incredibly prolific. He puts out a new 20-60 minute episode twice a week, covering every conceivable theatre and subject.
Cocaine and Rhinestones. Tyler Mahan Coe (He used to play in his father's band but they had a falling out and haven't spoken in 13 years) has put together an exhaustively researched podcast on the history of country music. Everything from household names to people you've never heard of but should have, often venturing to the seedier side of Nashville.
