I'm in bumfrick South Dakota for work right now upgrading a factory's IT resources and a lot of these factories are facing severe understaffing issues. The plant I'm at normally runs 24/7 but they had to slow down production because they can't find enough workers. The morning crew is mostly folks in their late 50s while the night crew is almost entirely from south of the border. All the young folks have moved out or are staying home living off welfare/unemployment.

In before a millennial starts complaining about having to move from their mid city apartment to find work. They don’t want to give up riding their bike to the coffee shop.

The stimulus checks seem to be insignificant compared to the enhanced UE benefits that extend all the way out to September

Yellen has already made it abundantly clear it’s not because of the stimulus guys, it’s because of no childcare and people afraid to work...

Correct. Stimulus checks and tax returns are a one time thing. The fed bonus is weekly and these people are now hood rich

Going to be interesting in a year or so when these people don't qualify for unemployment because they have no wages in their base period.

And in the long run they're hurting their ability to be employed once all this ends.

Back when the UE enhancement was 600 a week it made a lot of sense to not aggressively search for work if you had a low paying job. Now that it is 300 weekly and the light at the end of the tunnel is nearing you'd be a fool to not be looking for something.

I'm nearby Watertown. Great people but pretty flat and boring on this side of the state. Black Hills/Badlands are 6 hours away.

I worked in UI for a while.

The average reading level of a UI filer is 8th grade (and I think that needs to be re-evaluated, needs to be lowered))

Most UI people are regulars, they don't plan for anything except work enough to qualify for UI. They don't care about next month, its all about today.

Most of these people don’t think into the future farther than tomorrow. That’s part of the reason they are in the lowest paying jobs.
