Info circulating is saying a regional jet operated by PSA (American Airlines).
Shitty plane operated by a shitty airline. I avoid PSA and that model jet like the plague.

Not a pilot either but it's strange to me that local traffic would be passing through the final approach in the first place. Do it enough times and the law of averages says a collision will happen, regardless of safeguards. If it's that congested, maybe they should shut it down and move everything to BWI.

This would have happened to any airline. It was PSA that happened to be there at that time.

What in the actual frick… how does a military copter enter the airspace of approaching aircraft
When a TDS deranged pilot decides he wants to take out his VIP passenger. I hope I’m wrong but that’s what this is starting to feel like.

Guy at the presser asked about the number of survivors and all the mayor said is there were 64 people on the plane. Non answer was an answer.
The one picture of that plane out looks bad. Hard impact, not enough time to take the collision, react and brace

Pentagon says no pax on board, only the three crew members.

Shitty post by a shitty poster. This was unavoidable by the airplane.

There's a flight level you can potentially stay under (or over but that wouldn't apply here) to be out of the restricted airspace based on the class(some don't have this minimum).

Airport is definitely closed until 11 a.m.
Check with your airline and don't make your responses about you.
It is likely that most of 67 people are dead. Think about that.

My God, I just hope there weren’t any children on board.

First image of wreckage from X. Absolutely terrible, prayers for all involved.

DCA still operates solely so government officials don't have to fight through the poors and traffic on the 30 mile drive from Dulles.

Another issue with the flight avoidance capabilities, they were on basically landing mode, full flaps engaged, engines powered down, etc. This makes efforts to physically avoid a crash on the plane's part, much more difficult than in flight avoidance protocol where you can change altitude and direction more swiftly.
This is tragic.

Yep even if they would have saw the Blackhawk at the last second, they probably couldn’t have done much with the plane powered down for landing.

At this point, you gotta pray everyone died on impact and as instant as possible. I couldn't fathom being crushed together, alive, and going deep into that frigid water.

Looking at the video, the jet couldn't have even seen the Blackhawk, or even did on final and assumed they were going over them. It came from relatively behind at their convergent path.
The Blackhawk definitely is at fault.
It's possible that the pilots of the Blackhawk couldn't see the landing aircraft based on the angle (plane was coming down obviously). But WTF.
Now reports that people have been pulled alive!

The new Secretary of Transportation was sworn in on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday evening he’s dealing with a major airline catastrophe a few blocks from his new office.
