Pit Bull Attack

One of my neighbors and his wife were walking their two Bassett hounds yesterday evening.
About a block and a half from my house, a pit bull got away from its owner and attack one of their dogs. My buddy says it took three people to get it off of his dog. Luckily, his dogs have really thick leather collars and she was not badly injured.
Here's the deal. That pit bull lives next door to me, along with a 2nd one. We've known that dog since it was two months old. My neighbors are very responsible people, except for the fact they like those fricking a-hole dogs. For the people who say it's the owners not the breed, I politely say, "bullshite."
Now, my wife and daughter are scared that one or both of those pits next door will jump the fence and attack one of us or our two dogs. Or one day one or both of those dogs will get away from the owner while being walked and do some damage.
BTW, both the local PD and animal control said nothing could be done according to local law because without real damage/injury the dog can't be classified as violent. I'll be armed while walking my dogs from now on.

I'd have to have a talk with my next door neighbor after something like that. Doesn't need to be a "threat" per se. But just something to put them on notice. A reminder that you know about this incident and if either of those dogs attacks your family or your dogs, it will not end well for the pit. Or the neighbor.

But seriously, I would tell the owners that if the pit bull touches your fammily or dog that you will sue them for everyhting they have. Make them think twice about owning that useless breed.

Well, there is more to the story. When we bought this house, we knew the neighbors had a chocolate lab. We saw it in the yard when looking at the house.
The day after we move in, there's a damn pit bull in the yard. We found out much later that the pit bull used to belong to his daughter in Florida (shock, I know). My wife found out it bit someone and was told to get rid of the dog so she gave it to her dad.
That dog suddenly died one day after getting into anti-freeze. My wife swears to this day I had something to do with it, but I am convinced it was the neighbor on the other side. No evidence, just a gut feeling.
They have two pits now. The one they got as a puppy and another one given to them by his daughter in Florida. Their story, which we believe is bullshite, is that their 10-year-old grandson suddenly developed an allergy to the dog, so they had to get rid of a full-grown, 4-year-old pit.
It's just not a good situation now that I know at least one of his dogs has aggressive tendencies and strongly suspect the other has already had an incident in Florida.

Oh, I will, but my wife and I were talking about this last night. We live in a nice neighborhood. My neighbors are nice people who make a good living.
We just don't understand why they would put what they've worked hard for all these years at risk like that? It makes no sense.
I have a chocolate lab and a boxer mix. If either of my dogs ever got aggressive with anything other than a rabbit or a squirrel, it would be put down with the quickness. It makes no sense to keep an animal that cannot be trusted.

Yep, that's pretty much it, even though my friend's bassett has some puncture wounds. Not bad enough to require vet care or get something done about the aggressive animal.

Keep your piece on you. That dog even looks at you weird, claim you felt threatened and pop a round in it.

On the property line we share, it's a typical 5-foot chain link fence. Same with the neighbor on the other side. In his back yard, there's an 8-foot privacy fence put up by the neighbor behind him.

You have a wife and child to think about. You’re the man of the House and their safety is your responsibility. That mean you take whatever steps are necessary to nuterilze any threat to your family. You know what you have to do.
