Don't those planes practically fly themselves?

I suppose there is some level of quick thinking required when there is a breach at 30,000 feet.

I mean...I don't know a -ton- about flying...but I've always heard planes are perfectly capable of operating almost 'regularly' on one engine. Why is it so incredible that she was able to land the plane on one engine? Isn't this almost no different from landing with both?

I get it was an emergency situation, but...other than the added stress, it was technically no more difficult than most of her other landings, yeh? Maybe I'm missing something.

There’s a difference in losing power in an engine, and it blowing up and depressurizing the cabin.

Consider this woman for what she is, a damn good pilot who did a damn good job in a stressful emergency situation. Don’t discount her actions. There’s a reason that pilots have the training and knowledge they do despite the “pretty much fly themselves”...frick off.

She was probably flying with her foot on the brake and blew the engine out.

Hooyah, Tammie Shults!

Wait, are feminists, liberals, and SJWs going to acknowledge her gender and claim this as a victory for women?

It's a good thing those airplanes don't have a standard transmission

Is there, though? From a purely technical perspective, I am fairly confident it is no more difficult to fly a plane with a blown up engine vs a plane with an engine that loses power or something. And same with depressurization. The plane still operates almost exactly the same. I'm not talking about the added stress or whatever on the pilot. From a purely technical perspective, if a robot was flying the plane, it would operate almost exactly the same.

frick off?? What did I say that could possibly be seen as offensive to anybody? I didn't say the woman was a bad pilot. I didn't say she shouldn't be praised. I never said that planes 'pretty much fly themselves'. All I did was ask whether her landing was technically more difficult than any other landing. Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?

My Dad (career USMC pilot, WWII, Korea and Nam vet) always says "the skill of your pilot doesn't matter until something goes wrong." Actually, he words it better than I do.

Sad state the OT is in when it's so devoid of women that posters start knighting for ones in the news.

There's a lot of women on the OT, they just hide that they're women.
