Interesting read. My dad had a '67 L71 Vette and since they weren't worth a mint like today, he took off the tri power and put a single 850 double pumper on and it went faster like mentioned in the article.
Oh how I wish he kept some of his cars...
Several C2s, a '65 442 4 speed, '68 Z/28
All of them were red.

A lot of guys did that after getting tired of trying to keep them in sych. I always thought the L72 was the best motor at the time for that car. But that triangular air cleaner lid on the L71& L68 sure looked baddass.

Probably the most repeated line at any car show

His best friend had a '68 396/375 Camaro.
The old man did a "warranty replacement" 427/425 short block swap for him at the dealership.
Different times back then.
eta-The Z/28, with "Trans Am cam" aka #140, headers and 5.13's ran dead even with the 427 Camaro with headers and 4.88's at Byron. Depended on who cut the better light. Both well into the 12s.

AH, a set of drums for Christmas------------the gift that keeps on giving-------mostly headaches and jangled nerves.....
My brother-in-law's mother gave one of his sons a set of drums for Christmas one year and it was not well received by him.........He laughs about it now, but not so much back then.

Noisy gifts is one of the calling cards of grandparents. They sweep in, give the gift (of course scoring major points with their grandchildren in the process), then go home to leave you the parent to live with the aftermath. They get bonus points if you also have to assemble said noisy toy.
