Jill Ireland, an actress who eventually married Charles Bronson
quote:
In 1968, Ireland married Charles Bronson.[4] She had met him when he and McCallum were filming The Great Escape (1963) some years earlier.
Funny, David McCallum, Ireland's husband at the time, directed The Great Escape and hired Bronson for the film. Her and Bronson were hooking up and she eventually left him for Bronson.
McCullum later died of a drug overdose in '89.

No, that was directed by John Sturges who also directed The Magnificent Seven which also starred Charles Bronson.

George Patton was also involved.

Patton commanded the cavalry and a platoon of tanks in the attack. As for Eisenhower, he told MacArthur the whole thing was a huge mistake and not to do it. Even Hoover finally realized it was a mistake and ordered it stopped. Mac, being Mac, said FU and kept going.

Check that date at the bottom. Feb. 11, 1964. That was actually Mardi Gras day that year.
I know because my parents were married the previous weekend (on Saturday in their hometown of Biloxi) and watched The Beatles the next night. They were too poor for a honeymoon, they just moved to an apartment in Jefferson that Sunday. My dad went to work at his new job on Monday.
He had off the next day (Mardi Gras), and I figured he and my mom as young newlyweds would have gone and had fun that day at Mardi Gras.
But when I asked my mom about it, she said they were too scared to go-- they heard (in Biloxi) all these rumors and urban legends about Mardi Gras in New Orleans, such as people being robbed and beat up in crowds, and bad characters with razors sticking out of their shoe soles slicing other people's ankles at parades. They wound up watching the festivities on TV in their apartment.
Yeah, my parents were naive small-town bumpkins...

It was David and Jill's adopted son, Jason McCallum who died of a drug overdose in 1989.
