Re: The 50s... another photograph in my collection. By John French for Vanity Fair, 1953.
This is what I wouldn't mind doing all day. No, not lounging in a velvet evening dress. Taking fashion/glamour photos.

Had to laugh and upvote. I have gotten past the age when I might worry about what anyone thinks. But I don't believe I could tolerate high heels like I've seen some women do.

Macklin was a great player. Robey is in the background of that picture. I think it was one of two games UK lost that year. Maybe three, not sure.

I believe Kentucky had only two losses on the year. Macklin and starting LSU guard Kenny Higgs were both from Kentucky. I could understand letting Higgs get away, but Macklin was a beast on the boards with positioning and quick hands. Also in the photo is the Tiger's DeWayne "Astronaut" Scales. Along with freshman guard Ethan Martin they formed the basis for LSU's 1981 Final Four team that may have had a shot had Macklin not broken a finger on his shooting hand before the tourney. It was the beginning of many years of great games between the two programs. Don't pay much attention to college ball now with the one-and-dones.

These are in the family collection, just got a new document center that can scan directly to my computer and plan on a summer project of scanning thousands of pages of WW1 and WW2-era correspondence and military photos that I have.
General Jonathan "Skinny" Wainwright, West Point grad in the same class as my great grandfather. Both great friends and career cavalry officers.

Great photos. My oldest brother is a photographer and location scout in a large metro city on the East Coast. He's got a stable gig currently but I've just always admired his pluck and grit. There's not been much money in his work, but he just loves it.
