Google search shows this as "Coal Miner's Child in Grade School" Lejunior, Harlan County, KY 1946.
My grandmother taught in a 1-room schoolhouse in the mid to late 1946s in Eastern Kentucky...I imagine her school room looked a lot like this. My father would have been 9 (and in her class) around the time this picture was. He went on to get a degree in Engineering Physics and helped produce medical isotopes before he retired. So, the kids in this picture would all probably be in their late 80s now.
