We've all been there, Barbara

For some odd or nostalgic reason, I have a craving for breakfast from Sambo's today.

Apparently there was once one on Acadian in BR. Curiously, even though I went to LSU in the '80s, I have no memory of this at all.

I think it had already become Denny's by the '80s. I think it stopped being Sambo's at some point in the late '70s.

Oddly enough, the one in Biloxi was my favorite as a kid. The one on Acadian was a very close second. On top of that, we had to take a summer vacation and drive sixteen hours to get to either one of them, but I always looked forward to eating there just as soon as we had the car packed and left the driveway in Ashland, Kentucky heading south to see family.

I remember those hot dog whistles, they gave them away from the Wiener Mobile.

It was a pleasure to drive even on long trips because the seat was fairly high off of the floor and was like sitting on a big comfortable sofa. Not much for performance, but nice ride.

Do you have any pictures from you when you drove it like from your youth?
maybe get one of your great-grandkids to download it onto the interwebs and you can share it

A boy poses between wax figures of Davy Crockett [Fess Parker] and Georgie Russell [Buddy Ebsen], Davy Crockett Frontier Museum, Frontierland, Disneyland, CA, 1955, Don Heaston collection
As a kid I can think of only 2 shows that I made a point of watching. One was Davy Crockett if it happened to be on Sunday night's The Wonderful World of Disney and the annual Spring broadcast of The Wizard of Oz.

Shindig, Hullabaloo, Where the Action Is, and American Bandstand were all pretty crappy. Sit through 30 minutes of schlock for one or two decents songs.

Prosperity in the 50s. Is that a space heater under the table?

Fun game for a child. I wanted to go there badly. It was too far. Had to settle for 6 Flags over Texas. That place was a blast. Ponch Beach amusement was great too.
