I've hiked through Dale Creek Wyoming on 3 different occasions and the wind blows there all the time, very gusty. It is just 20 miles west of Cheyenne.
The bridge is completely gone and the foundations are barely there.
The Ames Monument is about 4 miles away from Dale Creek on Sherman Hill Wyoming, the elevation here is about 8000 feet above sea level. The monument is 60 feet high. See the Credit Mobilier Scandal.

The hull of the Massachusetts (BB-2) is on the bottom a few miles SW of Pensacola in the GOM
It was scuttled there in the '20s and used as target practice.
The outline of the main gun mounts is still visible at low, low water.
I fished and snorkeled there a decent amount.
It's the oldest US battleship still kinda sorta existent.

Johnny Carson did not particularly like having Bob Hope as a guest - Hope insisted that everything had to be tightly scripted.

Fly on the wall podcast had Jay Leno as a guest this week and he reiterated the same point you made. He wasn’t a big fan of Hope either

His jokes always seemed more rote/scripted than others. I know comedians often have writers but it seemed more obvious with Hope.
I can't detract from his USO work though....

Hope was more quick on his feet when he was younger, back in his days on radio, in the late-1930s and 1940s. Listen to some of the transcriptions. Excellent, sharp timing, too. He was one of those comics who was always 'on' in public. As he got older, his comic skills ossified, and he relied too much on writers. Became more of an assembly-line machine, tossing off jokes. I did see him perform live once at a benefit event in the early-1980s.
