A Northern Pacific train tests the tracks laid on the iced over Missouri River in 1879. A bridge was completed in 1883.

Note how wide the ties are to spread the weight out somewhat. (Trains in 1879 were much lighter than today, but still rather heavy for ice. That locomotive may weigh around 30-40 tons.)

Today is the 104th Anniversary of the founding of Tarzana Ranch, which later became the town of Tarzana!

On March 1, 1919, Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs closed the sale on General Harrison Gray Otis's ranch, Mil Flores. Burroughs promptly changed the name in honor of his literary hero.

Lana Wood, Natalie's sister.

From her part in Diamonds Are Forever

Plenty O'Toole: Hi, I'm Plenty.

James Bond: But of course you are.

Plenty O'Toole: Plenty O'Toole.

James Bond: Named after your father perhaps?

The "wedding" of Ernest Aron and John Wojtowicz (1971)

Wojtowicz talks to police after he has been stopped in the middle of a bank robbery and taken hostages (1972)

The incident would later inspire the film Dog Day Afternoon
