Chief Tallahassee (1884)
quote:
Tallahassee was a head-man of about 30 Seminole families who lived in Polk County from the 1850s until the 1890s. Seminoles mixed Euro-American materials with traditional styles. In this photograph, Tallahassee wears intricate sashes, belts, and leggings. The leggings, made from buckskin, were better suited for a colder climate. They were only worn on rare occasions in South Florida.

1976 Baton Rouge Cougars. Semi pro team that played part of one season in the Gulf States League and played their games at Alex Box. The league consisted of teams from Seguin, Beeville, Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley, Victoria, and Baton Rouge.
Their "corporate" office was a hotel suite at the Belmont on Airline. We were family friends with the management there and would go swimming on occasion. My brother and I (10 and 8 yrs old), being the hood rats we were, were walking around, and noticed an open door and walked in on a dude talking on a phone at a desk with a bunch of baseball equipment laying around. He looked at us told us to get the frick out and returned to his call. I guess he felt bad because he came down to the pool and gave us tickets to the fourth of July weekend game with fireworks.
Good times.
Their best player ended up being Terry Leach. Pitched 13 years in the Majors and won ring with the Twins in 1991.

I saw the Cougars play at least once that I remember, on the July 4th Bicentennial weekend. I thought it was at Goldsby Field, though.

Mark Guthrie was on that Twins team

Pretty sure it was Alex Box, but they may have played some games at Pete Golsby after they didn't pay the rent at LSU. Was that was the game where they had that local guy that did the LNB television ads with that old pickup truck come out on the field and the truck wouldn't start or something so a bunch of kids ran out and helped push it off the field?
Go to the 3 min mark for the ad

That's cool! I got the team photo from an Ebay listing which also has a bunch of their individual baseball cards that Bon Marche put out that year.
