Welcome Home Parade in Birmingham, AL for troops of the 167th Infantry Regiment after the end of World War I. The 167th, which traces it lineage back to the storied Confederate 4th Alabama during the American Civil War, fought in France as part of the 42nd “Rainbow” Division.
(Note on the LH column the crossed cannons under the word “regiment”; this was a mistake by the parade organizers who were unaware they were displaying the insignia of the field artillery to honor an infantry regiment)

TIL that Kafka is Slippy’s father.
I guess it makes sense.

On October 27th 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, a U-2 reconnaissance aircraft was shot down while flying over Cuba. The pilot, U.S. Air Force Maj. Rudolf Anderson Jr, was killed. RIP Sir and thank you for your service to our country.

What were they banned for?
Blunt trauma injuries
and they had a tendency to break or shatter. Slamming balls of glass together was probably a bad idea.

Well... Now we know what Nicholas Cage is gonna look like in his old age. (Eerie similarities there.)

von Braun wouldn't have let a black woman sharpen the pencils, much less do the math.
Here are the real scientists doing the trans lunar injection figures.

That, and I can just smell the wood paneling and smoke mix under the smell of cheap perfume possibly Charlie by Revlon.

After my dad died when I was 8 there was nobody who smoked inside the house.
However, when visiting our family members who did smoke, and that included inside their houses and vehicles, EVERYTHING smelled like cigarettes----------the carpet, drapes, upholstered furniture, etc.
Hell, the once white ceilings in my Aunt Judy's kitchen was a shade of light tan from cigarettes and fried food.
I truly don't miss those days.
