The dude in the middle, minus the hair and glasses, looks exactly like a co-worker of mine. I'm going to be printing this thing out and posting it around the office.

Col. Bubbie's

Galveston, Texas

It was by far the best military surplus store around. You could find just about anything military related there. No firearms. Clothes and memorabilia. They had a little bit of everything from most all wars.

Bought a pair of gloves one winter here while visiting. Those things lasted 25 years. Probably paid $10.

If you were in your teens and into concerts in the 1980's, this was the place to go for tickets and a chance to meet the band if you lived around the Houston or Pasadena area.

You would camp out the night before they went on sale. If you were in the front of the line, you could get eight tickets for $120 or so on the floor within the first ten rows center stage.

This was one of two rock radio stations in Houston in the early 1980's. They went top 40 in 1986. They died in 1990. Those bumper stickers were everywhere.

Kick arse Rock 'N' Roll!

This was the Galveston, Texas version of Sea World. Opened in 1965. Died in 1990.

The Killer Whale pool. demolished in 2006.

I bought a lot of stuff from there. But the best purchase was the WWII Parsons Jacket. It was brand new when i got it. It lasted about 15 or so years.

Butch Cassidy is 17 or 18 in that photo? I think he was born in the mid60s.

It's a Spanish-speaking station these days.

I just learned there were two Yorktown carriers. I knew one was lost in 1942.

Yes, the 2nd one was an Essex Class carrier. They preserved it and have it in Charleston, SC. I got to tour it last year. Really impressive ship.

We visited in July as well, definitely worth taking the tour of the USS Yorktown if you're in Charleston. The USS Laffey is right beside it too.
