This Museum is huge and it contains all wars during Korea's history. If you start in the basement, you go back to the earliest time and as you move up, you move forward in history.

I'll be posting a bunch of pics throughout the day. It looks like I took some batch photos in low light that I didn't realize and I have several copies of the same pics on photobucket.

I went there on a company trip. I had never heard of it and was pretty blown away by the scale. Definitely one of the best museums I've been to. The section on the Korean War really helps you understand how violent and terrible that war was.

I realize this. I was in the 2nd Infantry Division at the time I visited.

OP, did you make it up to the DMZ? Panmunjom is probably the strangest place I've ever been.

I did not.

I did, however, get on the wrong bus one day and it felt like I was going to the DMZ. When I realized I hopped on the wrong bus, it drove on for about an hour and I ended up in NE Seoul.

Would love to seethe exhibit on their war with Japan in the late 1500s. Though ming China owned Korea at the time, the war had a huge impact on Asian history.

Father in law was a marine in the Korean war. One of the Frozen Chozen - was shot, thought dead, told he would never walk. Tell a 19 year old kid all that - he went on to not only walk, but have 5 kids, play golf, tennis, lived a great long life.

Great guy - miss him.

I got to visit Seoul a couple years ago, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I hopped on the subway and just picked random stops to get out and explore. That museum was definitely one of the coolest places I went.

I went to the Vietnam war museum in Saigon. It was cool but also some of the exhibits were depressing. Agent orange really fricked them up.

No doubt. The JSA is like a make believe location, and the journey up Freedom Road is ominous as you approach the DMZ.

I did a stint as a FIST team leader doing Tank Company Western Corridor duty in 1984. While I was in the field a Soviet citizen defected to South Korea by dashing across the DMZ in the JSA. There was a firefight when the North Korean guards pursued the defector. You can imagine the radio traffic that ensued, and the alert warnings that went out.

I also spent a month as FDO at Firebase 4P3 in 1986. I was happy to be there since it was a vast improvement over Firebase 4P1 which it had recently replaced.
