Not one fat kid in that video.
No, but probably a lot of rickets, rheumatic fever, and polio.

The world really did go to pot once the pummel horse disappeared from gyms and schools.

Fat or not, that little girl grew up to kill people. She just looks mean as a snake.

That commercial feels like a Fritz Lang film.

1) That video is like 2 steps away from kiddie porn.
2) I’m 40 years old and 20 lbs overweight and could easily do everything performed in that video.

That has less to do with physical fitness and more to do with medical science. If we were to combine the fitness levels of yesteryear with the medical science of today, we'd be a very healthy population.

I can’t remember if it was for WWI or WWII (or both) but I recall at one point seeing old recruiting posters advertising how much the average person was gaining in height and weight from joining the army and getting steady calories and exercise.
It is remarkable how quickly the pendulum swung from a largely undernourished population that gains in stature from joining the military to an over fat (sorry, alternatively healthy) population that needs to lose weight during training.

Something tells me this was not representative of the average school boy, but were they supposed to be doing lunges on that balance beam around the 0:30 mark?

The Civilian Conservation Corps should still exist.
