Healthcare as a whole is a bubble.
Everyone started going into it.
When a field relies on government(Medicare, Medicaid) something eventually is gonna give.

They'll always be healthcare jobs. But, to think salaries will rise indefinitely etc is crazy.

One bad thing about being a pharmacist etc is you are kinda limited in what you can do.

I would classify myself as a "manufacturing support scientist". I've worked in Oil and gas, refining, petrochemicals (plastics), and pharma.

Going to professional school(anything medical) kinda pigeon holes a person.

Anywho, it’s a job posting for a pharmacist position in AZ. Pay is listed as $20-30/hour. Hard to justify paying $200,000+ for an education if that’s what you will make.

This makes me happy and I'll tell ya why. CSB time!

1pm October 25, 2000 I was sitting on the side of a Wal-Mart in Plano Texas waiting for the PS2 to go on sale at midnight.
Next to me in line was a guy maybe 3 yrs older than me. We got to know each other in the 11 hrs we had to wait. He was a Walmart pharmacist fresh out of school. He took less money than the big chain pharmacists(Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc) who were getting 90k a year because Walmart pharmacists had it easy.
He ended up telling me he made over 70k a year to work 40 hrs a week to simply "remember old ladies' names". His words. I'll never forget that quote.

I was a fresh LSU ISDS/Finance grad less than a year before, busting my arse 60hrs a week, writing VB scripts (data migration) and staying in shite hotels all over rural Texas for 42k.

I hope his PS2 didn't work because I'm petty like that.(that first US batch was garbage and I had to put my console upside down to get some discs to play. No frickin lie. But Ricky Williams actually looked like Ricky Williams. An amazing gaming revolution. )

They've been overpaid for decades. Phuck Pharmacists.

There's a pretty high demand for pharmacists. The problem is you have jackasses that only look to major cities. Places like the Mississippi delta need them desperately. Walgreens and other big chains pay an arse load of money for pharmacists to work there.

So if you're fresh out of college, go to an area like that for a few years, build up your wealth and experience then you can move away. Telling someone to not be a pharmacist is just stupid

Good to hear that the local pharmacy and my kids third grade class use the same motivational techniques.

Yeah, I’m kinda surprised by these posts. The clinical pharmacists I have worked with make over 100k and will admit that they don’t make near as much as those at places likes Walgreens. The ones as Walgreens get big signing bonuses too.

My niece wanted to go to college to become a Pharmacist and was working at Walgreens the summer before she started and some pill head came in with a fake prescription and when they refused to fill it seeing it was an obvious fake he freaked out and started throwing shite and threatening people. Cops had to be called and she asked the Pharmacist if that happened often and they said it is not an uncommon occurrence. Anyway she is starting her third year and her major is chemical engineer now. That incident kinda freaked her out.

Just call a CVS and try to get someone in charge that you can understand. Hands down the shittiest job on the planet and I'm headed out asap.

We have more laws and lawyers than at any point in history and thing continue to worsen. Maybe voluntary anarchism isn't such a bad thing.

Yea not looking good for the position. Schools keep turning them out into the NO area with not many job openings to be had. Walgreens bought all the rite-aids and are not cutting back pharmacy hours, decreasing staff and its looking like some of their newer acquired stores may end up closing in favor of their legacy stores and forcing more experienced pharmacist out. New graduates are hurting the field because they are taking jobs at lower pay because they are desperate which then hurts the older pharmacists. Why pay them all that money when they can get a new grad for 1/3 to 1/2 the cost.

Wages stagnate, working conditions and responsibilities get worse. I'm transitioning out to the tech sector. Healthcare sucks.

Basically this. At the end of the day, college is big business. They could give two shits if you get a job after spending 400k on your edumication. I tell every kid that thinks they want to be an rph to get a trade. Be a plumber, electrician, HVAC, builder...whatever. Just forget college. Even the AI bots that will take over teaching and medicine and all the other jobs that were slated to die due to 'covid', will need to stay cool with functioning AC. Stay outta school kids and learn a trade.

Compounding is one thing. That’s a skill.

A regular pharmacist is a ridiculous job to require that much education.

Any RN with a few years experience could perform the job a pharmacist at Walgreens or CVS.

Most of healthcare is this way really. Thank the lawyers in the government and their buddies at fully secured loan diploma mills.

They gave us hospital wide raises earlier this year. I was shocked. Hoping I can last long enough to pay off my loans and I may switch careers.

After putting in 10 years at a chain, I left to work for an independent pharmacy. Its been 5 years and I’ve never been happier. I will never go back to a chain. Working for the two big chains is a soul sucking experience. Add in the chain’s inability to properly staff most pharmacies due to cost cutting while forcing more metrics to be reached at the same time and you’ve got a recipe for disaster when it comes to patient safety.

Support your local independent pharmacies. The customer service that is provided will make you happy you switched.
