I was in New Orleans today and was thirsty. Instead of stopping at McDonalds on Carrollton, I waited till I was in Metairie to stop to get an iced tea. So I didn't pay the 10 cent sales tax to New Orleans. frick 'em.

Well I mean, if you wanna save 10 cents that's cool. We're talking about boycotting over statues though.

Then your friend has no obligation to do anything with the property, including keeping it standing. The SHPO nominates properties for the National Register. They don't regulate individual properties. Aside from municipal regulation, the only regulations upon National Register properties are a required review (Section 106) if federal funding is involved.

Periscope

Guy just interviewed an older white guy who was saying that Mitch has created a racial divide in the city now. He also said that he is a New Orleans Fire Fighter and the whole department is divided because of what the Superintendent and Mayor are doing. Damn.

Correct. Are you saying NOLA never received any funding from the Fed?

ETA: for those monuments, obviously.

Im speaking in general terms about politics.

Everything is so polarized, it is almost like there can no longer be a gray area.

Wait until this is all over with and you see the NOPD numbers go sub-1000 next month due to the racial division within that department too.

Not to complete this project, no. Thus, no Section 106 review was required.

An example of Section 106 requirement was the renovations to Criminal District Court, Charity Hospital's pending demolition, etc. All of which used FEMA funds.

It's because everyone is irrational and ignorant. You realize this was started over Dylan Roof, right?

There's absolutely no logic with this. There was never a rational discussion. There was never a vote. There was never a list of pros and cons. It was always about ignorance and irrationality.

This is very simple. If federal funds are not being used for this undertaking, there is no Section 106.

Eta: you realize the feds don't just write giant checks and say "spend it, city" right? Every project is applied for and goes through an approval process and is monitored. There's a reason Mitch couldn't find his drainage project.

The problem is, once Mitch Bitch let this particular genie out of the bottle, there was no putting it back in. Nowhere to go but to see it all the way through.
