The kid's dad lost his job and it was decided at the end of last school year that he would not return to Vanderbilt Catholic. Instead he would go to Hansville. VC offered to hire the kid's dad as an assistant coach which would allow him to attend VC free. The offer was refused. It is against the rules to offer a job to someone for the sole purpose of benefiting athletically.

Did the dad not lose the job he already had at VC? So they fired the dad, then offered him another job when they realized the kid might be pissed they fired his dad and would want to go elsewhere?

When I first read about it, it just said that his dad lost his job and that the family could no longer afford to send him there anymore, but I see this has more detail.

quote:

In May, the Robinson family decided that Andrew would leave Vandebilt Catholic after his father, Drew, was fired as the school's basketball coach. Soon after, the family announced that Andrew would attend Hahnville, which prompted Vandebilt to allege that he improperly transferred.

quote:

Throughout the hearing, the Robisons did their best to explain why they left Vandebilt, attempting to make it clear they were not welcomed back. Colyer Robison described the May 1 firing of her husband as the catalyst to the move and that not only would they no longer to be able to afford Catholic school, but that "the environment in Houma became toxic." She alleged soon after her husband was fired and it became clear Andrew wished to leave, Vandebilt offered Drew a job as a volunteer coach and Andrew could remain at the school tuition free, which would be in violation of LHSAA rules and that "we wanted no part of that."

They offered him a non paying position on the coaching staff.

Did they really? Is that factual? I have no clue. I just heard the dad was the issue. He got fired, then shopped his kid around. VC then asked LHSAA to look into it. I dont know facts, just saying what I've heard. Hell, I live 6 hours away and never heard of the kid until this situation.

If that's the case, then the family is not innocent. And the kid is VERY talented from what I hear, so I can see this as a likely scenario.

Catholic/private schools do this all the time. Well, they wait until "underprivileged" kids are going to high school and allow them to attend, starting their 9th grade year, tuition free, but of course they are just doing the lord's work by providing underprivileged kids with a better opportunity, but somehow they all end up being an asset to the school's athletes.

Prove it or shut the frick up. Same to holier than thou Saltaformaggio. They fricking broke the rules, now you want to point the finger at everyone else.

He sure didn’t seem to have a problem when Eugene Wells, and Ronald Green transferred to EJ from Curtis and he won a state title.

Do shite right and nobody is in this situation.

When the kid went to get his personal items from his locker the lock was cut and everything gone. The coach laughed it off and the kid saw other VC players with his personal belongings. Then he went through the entire summer preparing to qb Hahnville and was ruled ineligible on the day of the jamboree. He was shafted by the VC coach and board member of the ridiculously inept LHSAA. I will ask my local rep to audit them and / or shut them down. The LHSAA has ruined high school football in Louisiana with thier split championships. Absolutely destroyed what would be great competitive games.

Well it was actually most of the public school coaches/AD’s/Principals that caused the split.

I guess you could blame the LHSAA for not enforcing rules which caused previous animosity. Now the new guy Bonine comes in with a directive to enforce the rules...... then that sparks outrage when he does.

The kid broke the rules. He participated in spring practice with Hanhnville while he was still a student at VC. That is a major violation.

He also played in 7 on 7 tournaments before he withdrew from VC

IMO if a child has to transfer from a private school to a public school due to loss of income the rule should NOT apply.

if he transferred to the public school in his home district, he could play no matter what his reason for leaving Vandebilt.

don’t know what part of houma he’s from, but probably either Terrebonne or HLB would be his home district. outside shot it’s ST. and close to 0% he’d normally go to Ellender.
