I don't carry like I used to but when I did, it was usually a Springfield XD-E 9mm or a S&W Bodyguard .380 or a Colt Agent .38 caliber, simply because they were so well concealable and lightweight. I preferred DA/SA weapons.

Some would brag they carried a 10mm, with high capacity mags and maybe a Judge as a backup. Not me. I figure if there's going to be a gun fight, it would likely be over in 30 seconds or less with one or both of us lying on the ground bleeding out. That's just nuts.

Now, I just don't do it very often. I figure if it's my time, it's my time. Plus, I've gotten more aware of surroundings than I used to be and avoid going into a north Baton Rouge convenience store at midnight. You know...profiling.

I still have one in the space between the seat and center console. Oh yeah, then there's the machete too.

My wife owns a Pharmacy that been broken into like 10 times. I work right across the parking lot and can get there way faster than police. Why are you such a pussy?

Open carry seems to me like it paints a target on your back and I don’t want to draw attention.

My son and I were discussing that a little while back. We both agreed that if a nut just wanted to shoot up a coffee shop or store, he would check out the obvious defenders (open carry folks) and take them out first.

While I lost my Glock 43X in a boating accident, it was a nice little firearm.

Has anyone ever shot one of the "less lethal" personal protection guns? Does it at least drop someone if you shoot them? And how quick does someone recover after being shot with one? (as in, if you shoot them, will they be able to get up 20 seconds later and still be a problem ?)

The banana commercial ones? We looked at those at the store and they were kind of unwieldy and more expensive than I think I’d want to pay for that.

Yep. I have a S&W 9 mm 2.0 MP. Simple and reliable.
This is what I prefer to carry and do when it's practical but most often carry a p365xl just because it's more comfortable and concealable. I have a Ruger LCP max for throwing in gym shorts pocket type stuff but I bought that before the new S&W 380 came out and after playing with it a little bit will likely take over pocket duty.

I have to assume they're firing some kind of chemical irritant launcher. We hear ads on the radio about "Byrna" a lot.

Depending on which state you live in, and if you've lost your right to carry a firearm, that might work for you. Some states allow it because it is a CO2 propellant while states like California and Texas (the new California) consider it to be a harmful weapon.

Regarding "Less than lethal" options like pepper spray or C02 pistol fired pepper balls these are inflammatory agents made primarily from Oleoresin Capsicum (OC), a concentrated, oily extract derived from cayenne peppers.
Lol
If you're fighting a yankee they may be effective but south of Shreveport the perp will just ask for a beer then continue to kick your arse.

Absolutely nothing and I work in Jxn, MS which is the most dangerous city in the US.

Situational awareness and staying out of bad areas is all you need.

Plus castle doctrine/self defense, etc., wouldn't matter much if I (white guy) shot someone in Jxn, as the DA would try to fry my a$$.

I had to look it up because I forgot the name, but the brand is Byrna.

Byrna.com

I think there some that shoots pepper spray balls as well, which seems risky if you are the one using it.
