Is it worth getting one? What are the cons?
If you have one whats the best brand? whats the horsepower increase looking like. I know you can also use it to get better mpgs

This depends entirely on what type of car/truck you have

This is such a broad question without know what you drive

No....they're all junk/bullshite
Does anyone really think that for $19.95 or whatever they're advertised for that the mfr would have already installed one?

The answer to this would obviously be yes

i thought it was more like $300 and you could return it to normal if you didnt like it

I was just throwing out a number that I've seen but I'll re-ask the question; does anyone think that for $300 a mfr would hesitate to put a chip in that increases HP and MPG? No they wouldn't and they don't bc they don't exist.

WRT Mustangs, Vettes, Camaros - not worth it unless it's a turbo motor.
Trucks might be the best application for this, with a worthwhile increase in performance with Chevys, and Ford diesels.

You can probably get some performance gains but the point is it isn't the way the car was engineered to run

There are countless very good reasons why most vehicles are sold making less power than the engine is capable of. It's very easy to pull more power out of an electronic engine. It is impossible to do it without decreasing longevity and making other compromises.

Mercedes (Renntech) and BMW (Dinan) have flashes that won’t void the warranty, but are several times more expensive than APR et al. You have to pay to play.
Audi and VW are notorious for voiding warranties for ecu flashes even on downstream components.

I think the point of chips are to maximize the upgrades you've done to your rig. Intake, exhaust, new injectors...whatever you've done. I think just doing with no upgrades may get you something, but I don't think that's the point.

Just depends on the vehicle. Diesels are dialed way back off the showroom floor because the rest of the driveline wont live very long behind the engine doing all it can. It also leaves them room to up the ratings on the same platform in subsequent model years with basically only a calibration change. This is most prevalent in trucks and pony cars

Gas burner? Save your money.

Just had a full EGR/DPF delete done on my truck. Turbo pipe upgrade along with straight pipe exhaust. Tuning done with EZ-link. Set it on level four 150 hp tune and that beast will launch like a sports car. Gotta dial it down to stock for towing.
Tunes are definitely worth it if you are willing tk do other mods to help out the engine

And? Most cars aren't factory-tuned for optimum performance and sometimes even efficiency.

And?
As another poster said before me you may be sacrificing the longevity of the vehicle for these gains
And in some cases it voids warranty if that applies
I have an older secondary vehicle that I might eventually dump some money into as a hobby but I'd be a bit uneasy making a bunch of mods to my primary commuter
