I notice it more around golf courses and gated communities with "garden homes" more than anywhere else.

Apparently you and Hangit have not spent much time in Cincinnati. I had my doubts moving here as well, but it’s a better environment to raise a family than you would imagine. There is almost no crime in the area I live (Wyoming, OH), and my daughter is going to a top 75 high school in the country (son will be there in a few years). There is more to do around here than you think. I’ll agree that there are better cities to live in, and it’s flying under the radar, but at least it’s not Cleveland.

I grew up in a neighborhood with only about 10% of homes having fences. it was great, lots of room to play, easy to get through the neighborhood.

While it makes sense to have a fence, if a family doesn't want one, they might have their reasons why they do not want one. Every house in my neighborhood has one except for houses on side of a street that leads to a highway. There is a huge open field right past everyone's property line and now that I think about it.. I am curious as to why they all don't have a fence.. Anyway, personally, even if I lived out in the country, I would still fence in an area in the back because I wouldn't want my dogs to get out and run wild.
