People who constantantly talk/complain about the same people

Nearly every time you're around them it's inevitable that they will start talking and complaining about the same people who they have issues with (co-workers, former friends, family, etc).
Even if they have valid reasons for complaining at times, some people just can't stop obsessing over whoever it is they have issues with.
Thoughts on these type of folks?

I have a family member who can do this. And it's lose-lose because I am suddenly an a-hole when I tell the person we've heard enough.

Yep. One relative is so grouchy he has only us (relatives) and one couple who are his friends. When he's with us, he always talks about the poor decisions the friends make.
I'd love to know what he tells the friends about us. Maybe we should get with them and share.
