Credit card debt is sky high in America.

Most people aren’t competent enough to own a credit card and they don’t stack enough rewards/cash back.

Many places charge less if you pay cash now.

Forgive me as this is admittedly not my area of expertise. Wouldn’t he also have to get paid in cash to get away with this? That’s not the easiest thing to do for most lines of work.

And paying the credit off in full without finance charges each month.

YOU FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, ELSE THESE REWARDS/CASH BACK IS MORE THAN OFFSET/EXPENSIVE.

No need to be forgiven because you're right.

As if someone's going to be poring over a bank statement and not wonder about large cash withdrawals in 2025.

Smh if you're still doing this for essentials.

A lot of replies are overlooking this clarifying point. OP isn’t talking about an Amazon spree or lavish dinners. Sounds to me like they’re talking weekly grocery haul, gas fill up, utility bills, etc. It’s true you spend less with cash. But yes, if you get a card that accrues good points it’s kind of dumb to use cash for purchases you were going to have to make anyway.

It’s easier to swipe a card in a slot than it is to hand over the greenbacks, unless you’re at a strip club.

I use my card for my Amazon purchases, of which I make many, even for essentials, and get up to 6% back. Pay my car insurance with card and get 3% back. I get 2% back at pharmacies, on gasoline, at the grocery store and at restaurants. 1.5% on everything else.

I pay all my cards in full every month.

Cash? Everything is direct deposit so I have to go to a bank Atm to get some. What am I gonna do with coins? The end up in my vehicle or on my dresser. Banks don’t want them back, even if rolled. And Pennies? They’ll be obsolete soon.

Shooooooot. Imagine paying cash for my super duty King Ranch when I only have to pay $1200/month for the next 72 months. Who leaves money on the table like that?

Unless their employers pay them in cash, their withdrawals are no less visible FWIW.

I needed to get a new toilet installed awhile back. There was something else that was needed, but the total was $185 and some change. I asked what would it be if I was paying cash.. Without even thinking about it he said "$170". I didn't expect it to be that much taken off, but I didn't ask question.

Call me old school. I still like cash. All of those rewards are dumb. I have a bunch I guess I need to cash in, but that cash back thing is stupid. Why not give a discount when using that card? Instead of getting whatever you get for every dollar spent, why not just apply that to the total of a purchase? Either way, its not something they are giving to you free. You pay for it in hidden cost somewhere.

How would I pay more when I immediately pay my credit cards off as soon as the charge is posted? To each their own, but I enjoy the free 100 bucks or so I get a month just by using my credit card. I

Or $150/mo doesn't make a difference to me, and something like 80% of people who use credit cards for everything carry a balance.

Maybe, but I'm not in the 80 percent. I never charge more than I can pay off immediately.

Congratulations, you’ve defeated the evil CC companies.

The other 80% of Americans are building up insane amounts of CC debt.

Is it really advantageous anymore with the fees everyone charges now for using a card?

Maybe those people don’t have great credit

Why not payoff monthly…letting the money you use to payoff accrue interest. Do this over a lifetime. It’s not chump change thing to do. Autopay monthly in full.
