I laughed.

The bottom line is that Louisiana isn't a great state but some of us do perfectly fine here. My wife and I probably earn in the top 10-15% though so maybe my perspective is a bit skewed.

Every ingle time I travel out of state, I'm always amazed by what constitutes a house. A large portion of this country lives in places that most of south Louisiana wouldn't even use for a hunting camp.

wtf are you talking about

Is this a trend in our state? Are most young people relocating for better job opportunities once they graduate college? Overall I just get the feeling more people are moving away than moving here.

For obvious reasons, I'm not the best reference. I will share what many others who relocated out of LA have mentioned.

The general sentiment is that Louisiana typically takes its educated population (especially those with needed skills) for granted. They base this off the fact that people are so tied to their family and cultural norms that they wouldn't dare leave. So they see no reason to invest to keep these people in state as they'll just take whatever they can get.

This definitely works on older generations as they see the state as theirs. They dont want risk another group taking over a place that was once home. It also explains why so many people are fixated on states rights.

The newer generations are not so fixated on keeping a legacy. They see the state what it is (like others have stated) and not what it used to be. The economic opportunities simply are better elsewhere.

To be fair to the Louisiana for Life people, the hometowns may have been great places to stay. But economic and social trends change over time. Many neighborhoods that were once middle class utopias are now blights of drugs and crime. If you lived in Shreveport or New Orleans you know what I'm getting at.

^This. It isn’t a great state but when I retired from the Air Force, I decided to move back to be close to friends and family. I have a great job and am doing perfectly fine.

I graduated with my masters from Southeastern in 2016. My gf now wife graduated from LSU with her PHD in 2017. We looked for jobs in BR and NOLA exclusively but we took interviews in Miami, Oxford, Knoxville, Houston, Dallas, and even Muncie. No luck on jobs in LA in Nola or in BR. I got a job offer from Miami and we moved from Metarie to Miami. I love Florida. I don't think I am goin back. I miss Chimes, Walkons and crawfish and nice southern people, but I had to what I had to do. South Florida had jobs for us.

My parents did the same in the 80s when oil went to shite.

We relocated to ATL. I remember it was a really high percentage of the people that left LA during that time moved to ATL and the surrounding suburbs.

The brain drain makes me seem smarter. So it’s kind of a net positive for me and my family.

I agree. Living in Louisiana is good for my self esteem.

Never saw this

I made 7.1x more at 24 than I do now. More if you considering housing allowance.

But I was a miserable alcoholic. And after a friend committed suicide... I wanted out. Resigned. Paid a company to pack my shite, and left two days later.

Couldn't be happier.

Yeah, this has only been happening for about 20 years now.

More like 40 or 50 years.
