How long have you been in your position? And your work 9 months out of the year 24/7?

Do you neglect your customers for 90 days or does someone fill in for you?

2 years in sales; 10 years too late

In my first year, I made SOTM 3 times and fell out of the top 3 (of 15) twice. Both of those months were during hunting season. And no, I don't hang it up for 3 months at a time, I just take plenty of 3 and 4 day weekends to the camp. The rest of the year, I don't take off at all

Thank you. You take time when you can? You understand that your customer is your paycheck?

Yeah I have a supportive sales team, so I know those few days I'm out of pocket, my clients are taken care of. I knew coming into sales that my production would dip in the Winter, but the money I'm making in the other months more than compensates for it. Can't believe I spent 8 years in the Shipping industry being comfortable at barely being in the 100k club.

Well the best I can explain my job for security purposes is that we do contract work for government offices and political folks.

Part of my job is to acquire and handle said jobs.

An employee through a senators office called and I didn't get back to them for 3 hours. When I called back the senator seemed pretty pissed about the delay and then I told him that I was fishing with my daughter and left my phone in the house so I could have daddy daughter time.

I could have not gotten the job and it would have take money away from me.

The senator actually started talking to me about fishing trips with his grand kids and how much he loved doing that and he actually loved that I was spending time with my daughter on the lake.

So like I said, family is way more important and the job will work itself out anyway

Goes with the territory

I make my own schedule. Work from home. Answer calls 24/7 but I do whatever the frick I want when I want

If I want to stay home in my underwear all day and make sales calls instead of traveling because I'm hungover then I do it.

I love working from home and wouldn't have it any other way. I check email on vacation, Christmas, etc. Doesn't bother me

I'm lookin at getting into sells if I do not get accepted into grad school. What are ways to get into a decent entry level sales position. I do have some lowes sales specialist experience, which requires a monthly quota.

get into the cloud. Learn SAP. Do some time working on SAP projects. Move into sales. Make bank.

If you're female, good looking and have a personality, and a degree with some pre med mixed in, drug companies will train you and if you have tits they don't even bother to train you. You already have skills.

I track certain activities and when i hit my mark i go home. Focus on profitable action, knock down a daily goal then go home.

When I sit down for lunch leave phone in car, supper or with family leave phone in other room, try to wrap up stuff by about 630 pm, don't bring phone to gym.

I do not recommend getting into "drug" sales, aka pharma. Scarlet letter on a sales resume.

In sales. Generous base, triple digits, plus bonus structure as a percentage of increased margin versus previous year. I never totally disconnect. Today's business climate is 24/7. In fact, I have some customers who only call/text/email me with orders, on Sat/Sun mornings. Its the time they set aside in their offices to plan their week. Part of the territory.

I'm in the same boat. I actually got a call at 9 with an hour long conversation on Sunday last night telling me to be at dow for 7 this morning.

I feel your pain, but with a job like this I like for my customers to rely on me. As the post above says the money is great and even though technically I can be working at any time or day I also have a lot of flexibility and more off time than most that work full time jobs.

It's a trade off, but sometimes it can be draining.

A lot of you guys are totally right. I feel energized and enthused this morning. I think I was just in a funk last night. As you said, it's often just draining and sometimes you dread having to jump back in the ring.

I have nothing to complain about, I've been given more than I deserve.

I agree and disagree. Most of my customers are close with me and they do like doing things after work/weekends and it can be a burden at times, however I see how much harder our inside guys work and I really appreciate them. I also appreciate I don't have to sit in the office all day or have a set schedule.

I may work 60+ hours one week and 20 the next. It's all a trade off.

"Old folks" didn't live in the same world we do, where responses to emails are required on nights, weekends, etc. As well as crazy arse deadlines thanks to faster technology.

A few things that can help:

- Meditate daily to remove things from your head at least for a time. There are several good books. Dan Harris' 10% Happier has great reviews

- Exercise / take walks, leaving the phone at home.

- Plan weekend or longer trips to favorite places or somewhere new. It's something to look forward to.

- Volunteer in your hood, through church or otherwise. It aligns perspective.

- In the blink of a cosmic eye, we'll be dead and in the ground. Don't sweat the small stuff.
