Believe me if I had a chance to stay inside and make good money where I'm at I would but that's just not the case so outside sales is in my future whether I like it or not because eventually I have to bring more money home so my wife can shop online Every night like she does!

I'm in IT.
But I began my career working with a lot of Swedish and Icelandic clients.
It's a mind set.

I'm not in sales, but I certainly have grinded in every job ever. I can absolutely relate. I've tried different things. I have been passionate about every job at the beginning but sort of got bored and left for the next challenge. Now I understand it is about feeling like I am still challenging myself, still working toward a goal. Without that, then it is senseless grinding and just feels like a prison. Daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals are a huge benefit in making it less monotonous.
Also, I find it is very important to take personal time to recharge. It is important to have it planned out in advance and on a regular basis so you know when it is coming. I make sure that 1 day a week is entirely for me - usually on Saturday. No work allowed that day, just quality time doing whatever.
Also, studies show that multiple 3 day weekends do a lot more to recharge you then a big week long or two week vacation. So every once in a while, I'll take a 3 day weekend. I have not taken more than 1 weekday off in years, but the multiple 3 day weekends work wonders.
So that is my suggestion after having been doing this for a decade. Always feel like you are working toward a goal, make sure to schedule personal time in advance so you know it is coming, and take multiple 3 day weekends throughout the year rather than one big vacation.

Navy, I may have phrased the OP in a way that made it seem as if I hate my job. I sound like a broken record by now, but I really don't. Isn't it entirely possible to just get burned out even while doing something you enjoy? If you do it long enough or work like a dog? It's not that I long for other things to do. It's that I long to spend a full day with my baby free from my phone, and knowing I can do it all over again the next day. It's just been a while since I've been able to disconnect. I did it slightly on maternity leave (2 years ago) and one other time in Italy (3 years ago).
I sound whiny, sorry.

You're never gonna win a Cadillac El Dorado with that attitude.

Schedule vacation days before or after a holiday off day so you can have longer weekends etc, kinda like mini vacations

i used to argue this back in school
5 more random mondays off were worth losing 1 week in summer

Naw, I'm picking. It certainly is possible to burn out on something you enjoy. It'd be nice if more of us were in a financial/professional position to take a 6-month or year-long sabbatical and pick up right where we left off. Unfortunately, that isn't a reality for the vast majority of people (and never has been). I'd recommend alcohol, but that didn't do me any favors in the long run. Do you have the flexibility to dial back your hours/quota for a period of time?
And I wasn't joking. I hate my current position (and kinda grew to hate the last one). I still love being in the Navy, though. So I guess paradoxes can abound.

So far for anyone taking notes:
1) get a new job. K.
2) OOOR
3) multiple 3 day weekends.
4) setting a vacation far in advance as to give oneself something to look forward to.
5) have reliable And helpful coworkers. Which, luckily, I really do.

The thought process behind it is that it takes about 2 weeks to get back into the groove at work after a long vacation but there is really no adjustment time needed after a 3 day weekend.

Thanks for your service. You're right. Would be awesome to be able to leave for a while and pick up where you left off. Guess the only solution for me is to have another baby. Lol. Outside of teachers, who the hell else can get that kind of time off in a year?

Get a FANTASTIC a supporting cast (Team). Once you do that you can delegate more which allows you to disengage easier.

I never really got into sega. The bad kids down the street loved it, though. If we're going down this road..Pacman was my fave as a 5 y/o.

Work with European clients who make it clear that you are a poor worker if you don't disconnect.
It's embarressing how relentlessly Americans work to kill themself. Understand that you have only one life.
Same here. That's why that Cadillac commercial from a year ago with Neal McDonough lambasting Europeans for their work schedules and vacation habits was the dumbest fricking thing I've ever seen. Say what you want about them, but they're kicking our arses when it comes to work/life balance and benefits.
