that's it in a nutshell, legends in their own minds, but Mobile doesn't have the market cornered on that sort of bogus elitism

ETA: some of those old clubs, i.e. The Boston Club, wouldn't let Jesus in if he weren't from one of the inner circle and from New Orleans

the few people that I know that work in Mobile that have really good jobs/practices in Mobile, all live in Fairhope, and it seems to be a nice little town, but it's still in alabama

Mobile has an inner circle of social elites that are accepted in the mystic carnival world and they’re not real welcoming to comeyunders.

Lots of kids I’ve met from that circle have that arrogance about themselves. When they get outside of their comfort zone though, they generally freak because really, no one gives a shite about Mobile’s pretend social importance.

BINGO BINGO BINGO!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!

I worked at the Country Club of Mobile while in school, and I can assure you a more arrogant, ignorant, lame af group of men there is not. I always said that if I could drop one bomb on one place, it would be that country club. Everywhere else on the bay is great, old SpringHill money should die.. oh and their kids suck even more

Fairhope is probably the greatest place on earth fwiw

no, I just can't stand alabama, to each his own, most people think La is trashy and backwards, and if I weren't from here I'd more than likely think that too , but I still love it, you could probably search the world over for someone to use that term to describe me and not find anyone that would though

Most people from Mobile know better than to show up to a funeral wearing a "Dixie till I die" tshirt if you catch my drift...

Better schools, better infrastructure, better jobs, etc. Ill take Birmingham out of this generalization but Mobile is a better place than the rest of AL

Oh damn, you live there now? I think Mobile the city, and the surrounding areas are fine, but man, I've just never been a fan of the Mobile/DKE thing.

The SO and I moved here about a year and a half ago - we're actually getting married down here as well. I really enjoy the town, but you can definitely tell it's cliqued out hardcore when you get into the social scene and they're not too quick to accept outsiders.

and half of "old" NO isn't?

there are some cliques in that town that will never be broken into, maybe some ancillary shoulder rubbing, but an outsider will never get in the circle of trust

I am from Mobile, and I will say that the assessments of the carnival side of things is correct - but to the OP, not all of us are as you describe.
