Have you considered that some of the people donating money might be from another state and can't come here to actually help work?
Do I really have to put a disclaimer in a post stating it isn't feasible for people across to the country to physically help? I'm referring to people in Louisiana starting gofundme's and other people in the state solely donating instead of actually helping. Have you searched gofudnme for Louisiana flood pages? There are hundreds of them.

These gofundme people are lazy trash. My wife tells me that my family is white trash. But so is hers. The only difference is that my white trash family lives hand to mouth (cigarettes included) in a trailer w/ maybe one window unit A/C. Her white trash family tries to portray that they're something they're not while trying to convince me that their magic powder juice will help me w/ my chronic joint pain.
Sounds like a wonderful marriage.

I had a ford edge a few weeks ago as a rental. That vehicle right there is one fine driving machine, a lot better than the SO's Q5. I'm considering getting one when I'm in the market for a new car again.
Fantastic vehicle. Solid as any import. No issues with ours at 118,000 miles...NO issues and as solid as the day we bought it. Still looks new, too. Certainly as nice as the Acura MDX we had. This vehicle will make you a fan of Ford.

You're right many people mooch off taxpayers, but some of us don't. I'm a disabled middle aged woman whose working days are over...I live off my disability benefits and help from my church and family, but my family is far from wealthy. Guess how much I get in food stamps per month? A whopping $49 per month-try that budget.
I don't want pity, just a gentle reminder that not every one steals from taxpayers....then again, I haven't had 8 kids with 6 different fathers and I don't claim 8 kids when I'm a one person household!! Peace.

I don't think terd was implying that there are not people that genuinely need the assistance.
To everyone else: If the gofundmes annoy you, just ignore them. I really do not think that the people they are started for or who started them are just sitting on their asses thinking "that gofundme will take care of everything". They are just basically grasping at any resources they can right now for help.

My parents and sibling's combined annual income (this includes social security checks) is less than what a people would consider low income for one person.
Go get welfare, food stamps or disability if they're that destitute. Then go help them. I would never allow my family to be in such situation.
But I'm a man. Maybe that makes a difference.

Welcome to the OT. Unfortunetly you've come to wrong place for any type of logic. Most here have no heart, feelings and love to step on people when they are down. There are some with souls on this board but most of it comes with the death of a pet

How are your parents. Headed to BR on Saturday. We will have some extra clothes and shoes that people have donated. If you need me to take to them, let me know. Also, if you need to ship something, let me know and I'll give you my brother's address and take it to them for you.

I don't understand it either. There are tens of thousands of families in need right now. Everyone is in the same situation. Why do these people think that they are special? My husband has a friend that lives in a $500,000+ home in Graystone in Denham Springs and he and his wife have both been whining and moaning on Facebook since this happened. He's military, so they are staying on one of the bases right now. They are a lot more fortunate than many others. If you can afford that kind of home and three luxury vehicles, then ideally you should have enough money in savings to start a pretty good recovery effort for your family. If not, then you don't need to be living so high on the hog. They also started a gofundme...for themselves.
On the other hand...we have some other friends who are your average working middle class and they lost everything and haven't asked for a dime. She also gave birth on Tuesday. That's where my extra resources are going.

My good friend's family is complete screwed. He's a minister and the church owned his home, which got 3 feet of water. Church had flood insurance for the structure, not contents. They had renters insurance which of course didn't include flood coverage.
Their daughter set up a Go Fund Me for out of state family to donate and so far they've received around $2,000; which will help them buy clothing and food.
So in sorry the links on your Facebook inconvenience you.

They are doing ok.....just overwhelmed. I have to remind my dad each time I talk to him to just focus on getting through each day at a time.
They are salvaging all they can from the trailer.,..,trailer itself a total loss. They have had some clothing donations come in. I'll let you know if they need anything, thank you! But I realize their loss, while bad, is not as bad as others. So if you know others that had higher water damage, feel free to send them the clothes instead.
I know you will be happy to see your parents. It's hard being so far away. I can't go until sept 1 so it kills me not to be able to help them right now physically.

My dad still doesn't understand why he can't go home. They are with my brother right now, but he doesn't really have the room for it long term and there is nowhere for them to rent. We're hoping they will come out here with us. But don't know if they can really afford to do it.
If you need anything while I'm there let me know.

Will do. And let me know as well when I fly out in sept. You can email me clothing and shoe sizes if you want and if I get any donations here in AZ I can add it to what I'm bringing with me
