Their ability to quarantine is the most effective treatment for this.

Their lack of transparency sucks for the people that already got the disease a their outcome could be worse, but the only thing that will be effective at stopping the spread is containment.

I disagree. By placing people into the quarantine, they are almost guaranteeing that those people get it whether they would have or not. Right now, if you go to a Chinese quarantine, you are going to get this virus.

Ok thanks. I admit I didn't research it because I assumed it was your typical Facebook drama minus the facts. I now see that they have cleared 8 of the 20.

From what I'm gathering India's population isn't in the target zone of this particular virus. Its a lab born virus that got loose and is genetically aggressive on certain receptors that are prevalent in Asian Male population. That's why outside of Asians the infection rate isn't as bad as, and recovery rates have been faster.

Is this fact now, or still just wild speculation?

Oh boy.....

You wanna link that? Pretty sure this idea has been debunked. Repeatedly. In this thread.

CDC will have a better and full report in about a month. 100% man made. Its one of the many reasons it was so quick to derive and antiviral vaccine for which is now in testing phase.

None of this is true. It uses the same receptors as SARS. I linked an animal study that showed less of the receptor actually makes the disease worse.

This also isn’t true. The antiviral used has been around long before this virus and was used for ebola.

Where the hell are you getting your information?

I bet you're scared to go to far out on the ocean for fear you'll fall off the Earth too.

I'm skeptical. I did see a report about a Chinese doc or some such suggesting that it came from a lab, but nothing to really verify this.

You're referring to Inovio? They've announced such things before. By the time any vaccine gets approved, the threat will have largely passed.

I do have a colleague with a friend at the CDC and she had asked said friend about her risk during a trip to a conference in Chicago last week. The friend asked her why she thought she was at risk. She didn't really think she was, but was simply asking if she should be concerned. She was told that if there were any chance that she had been in contact with anyone infected, she could expect a "knock on her door". I thought that was an interesting comment.

So what? Its harsh and it sucks for those people, but if you had to choose the most logical option not based on emotion it’s clearly the best. The point is to contain the spread.

CDC has said repeatedly what stopped the SARS outbreak was containment. There is no other way to stop a virus like this.

Lab created virus developed in a country with the largest population of Asian men in the world that is designed to target Asian men. Yep, checks out.

They do have a population crisis because they have WAY more men than woman and in general are over-populated to an extreme degree.

But the conspiracy theories are all bullshite.

Iran says two citizens with coronavirus have died

Two people who were diagnosed with coronavirus in Iran have died, a state-run news agency has reported.

The IRNA news agency said the two victims were elderly Iranian citizens. IRNA quoted Alireza Vahabzadeh, a health ministry official, who said both victims were located in Qom, about 86 miles (140km) south of the capital, Tehran. Officials had confirmed the cases earlier on Wednesday.

There are pluses and minuses, but the NYT story highlighted the fact that donated supplies are going to politically connected people and not to hospitals or worse yet, just sitting in a warehouse. Meanwhile doctors and nurses are dying from lack of proper medical equipment.

Private charities are severely restricted in the country.
