So a Gov that likes to sue businesses and a carpet bagger mayor with a tax problem are sitting on the economic future of a tourism crown jewel of America

Unreal

I am sure latoya crushing FQ institutions and then brokering the real estate to JayZ or Oprah’s holding company is great for her personal income tax problems but I can’t imagine it is good for the future of the city.

I have no idea if he knows or not, but MrLsu has made up complete bull shite on this board many many times.

The one that I continue to bring up is that he claimed him and his son saw Hard Rock bulging the night before the collapse.

MrLSU’s claim also turned out to be accurate as many other people also came forward & corroborated his story. There dozens of people who spoke to the media about the seeing the sag on the top floors.

No one is questioning that either the city has a budget of far more than 7.8 billion dollars, or that laying off city workers is worth 2.6 billion dollars a year.

The other scenario with his wording is that Orleans as a whole is losing 150MM a week, which maybe is conceivable, but laying off city workers isn't going to somehow increase that lost revenue.

As for Mardi Gras--is the big question mark right now as one idea is to have Mardi Gras but with NO throws and no spectators. The Krewes will roll down the parade routes and spectators can watch them roll virtually. I'm unsure how many Krewes will actually roll under this model but it is a leading contender if we have Mardi Gras in 2021.

This is unbelievably dumb. Even for Destroya.

I can't say whether the rest of his post is accurate.

I can however say that the tourism forecast of not having a full rebound until almost 2024 is exactly what my company was told.

People who believe that tourism is just going to turn on again like a spigot once the world returns to "normal", which, at this point, won't even be until likely next Summer at the earliest, are deluding themselves.

I'm not going to sit here and claim NOLA is dead. But the fact is that every major American city is going to have an uphill battle with economic recovery once the dust settles. And as much as the board loves to shite on the likes of NYC, LA, SF, Chicago - all of those markets have economic engines that don't solely rely on tourism, which, unfortunately, NOLA mostly does. It's certainly possible for it to recover, but unfortunately I think it's going to take a long, long while.

Christopher Leach Article

"NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA– With a new stimulus bill, in the works, several cities are hoping it will include help for tourism. New Orleans Tourism and Marketing reports that with three months left in 2020, 50 percent of restaurants and 67 percent of hotels are open.

Mark Romig, the Chief Executive Officer for New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Corporation is urging for Congress and state legislators to help bring New Orleans’ economy back from the brink, after the effects of the coronavirus.

Romig, looks back at March remembering how his city went from vibrant to desolate in a matter of days, saying “none of the Cares Act information has contained any support for attractions, museums or destination marketing organizations, we really need that assistance, especially as we see more of our city struggling, for instance the Audubon Zoo. We need to be given the chance.”

Compared to last year, the city losses about 150 million dollars a week; which is a dire deficit for a tourism-based economy."

I did make a mistake in my original post I said 67% of the hotels were shut down that was a typo I should have said 33% of all hotels were shut down. Still everything else is accurate.

No worries, only off by 200%

Doesn't mention anything about your other statement that those are permanent.

Or how laying off workers will prevent losing $200MM per week.

Okay I see your edit...but still...which hotels are permanently shutdown

Any the restaurants number isnt accurate either....50% the restaurants in the city are not closed..and the majority of the ones that are closed are closed by choice(well not by choice of their own, but they could open if they wanted to)....they could open at the mandated capacity, however they are staying closed for now until they cant open at a certain %

its one thing for a city like NY to have approached this the way they did, the fact is economically they'll eventually recover

NOLA should have been open for business stealing conventions left and right because the hospitality industry is its life blood. The end game has to be the hope of some massive federal funding but even if that ever comes, it'll be far too late for many of the businesses. Plus its NOLA so that money will just get put into the wrong hands anyway. Amazing how stupid and short sighted the leadership there is.
