Over 1.73 million people fly daily in and out of US airports. One fatality this week. How many people died today in a car accident across the country?

A couple things wrong with this statement:

1) Your comparator (1.73 million people fly) is misplaced. There’s over 200 million licensed drivers in the country. How many do you think drive every day? If ONLY ten percent drive, that’s still 20 million people driving per day (18+ million more people “at risk” of death per day). With that in mind, only 37000 people die a year (or a little over 100 a day).

2) Airplanes don’t drive below the speed limit in the left lane causing everyone to drive like morons
