In case anyone needs to know which sites have been suspended. Not all parishes indicating suspension have completely stopped serving, some have just consolidated to serve at a select number of locations.

You’re very confused. EBT can only be used on food. No diapers, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. Food stamps is less than $6 a day per person.

I’m not sure how much money people think food stamps are, but it’s a little less than $6 a day per person. I believe the people getting “cash welfare” are getting $100 a month for a year and have drug tests and work requirements.
That’s why they have free or reduced lunch. There are a lot more people getting free/reduced lunch not eligible for food stamps. I used to teach elementary school. It’s not these kids fault.

I think the bigger issue is what they are buying. Instead of buying a box of hamburger helper and a pound of ground meat for $6 to feed a family of four 1 meal they are buying 4# of crawfish at $3 a pound for 1 person. It happens. Fish Markets and gas stations with delis have figured out the game to capture “their share”. Its all about what they choose to purchase.

Probably because the parishes are about to run out of money and don’t want to spend it on meals. You have to realize the sales tax revenues the governments rely on a monthly basis will be 80-90% less next month. Cash is tight and the feds aren’t helping.

From my little knowledge on this I understand they will lose money by stopping it, most of the school food money is federal and it is dependant on # of free meals served to those that qualify, that is what those little yellow cards the schools whine about you filling out are for.

But just because it was approved in the budget doesn’t mean they actually have the cash in hand does it? I’m not asking a gotcha I’m genuinely loookg for an answer
