Agreed on the controlling your kids. However before having a kid of my own, I used to think it was a cut and dry easy thing to accomplish and it just isn’t. Wish it was. I’m right there with you. I will win the war on disciplining my kid but I expect to lose a few small battles too. Hope it’s not when I’m around someone that doesn’t have kids. Same thing with a baby on a plane. I’ve never traveled with my kid yet but I used to be annoyed when I heard a baby cry on a plane, now I just wonder why the baby is crying. Hungry, afraid of strangers, loud noises, tired, etc.

Only time my 2 year old isn’t disruptive in a restaurant a phone has to be stuck to her face. She’ll ruin our meal every time and my wife and I end up in a fight. From birth to 2 years old is a nightmare that we won’t relive. Only 1 kid for us.

Of if you don't teach them common courtesy and manners

You can teach them those qualities as well as give them a little room to still be kids.

You don’t have to duct tape their mouths shut and tie their arms behind their backs every time you go out in public with them to teach them manners

Sometimes even good kids have a bad day and will unleash an unexpected outburst in public. You can't predict when/if it will happen. However, a good parent should have the courtesy to take the child outside or away from the other paying patrons until he/she is behaving.

Being a kid and running amok all over a store are two different things

Now kids are free to run amok, scream and cry, etc and the parents do nothing about it. Makes going out a chore and annoying af.

Can you give us a couple of examples where it was a chore for you to be around a situation like you described?

Seems like their is a lot of self entitlement to allowing your kids to misbehave and also thinking you should somehow be absolved of the slightest inconvenience from a stranger while in public.

but unless you have kids yourself you need to STFU

This is such a horseshite response/excuse from parents who can't actually parent their own children.

I (and most in this thread) know enough from when we were kids to know that your children should not be acting like arse holes in public.

It's 100% preventable after the first time it happens. If they are acting out in public and you aren't doing anything about it, then you need to STFU and stop being a shitty parent.

I am sure what you consider letting kids be kids and what the OP is describing are two different things.

I agree with your premise but some parents have absolutely no control over their little semen demons and couldn't give a frick how much it bothers othed people as long as it doesn't inconvenience them.

You can "what if" all day and find exceptions to any rule. That doesn't change that it seems kids today misbehave a lot more in public than what was socially acceptable in the past.
